I am thinking this knife might be ideal for what we discussed.

I forgot you don't like the sealions- too hard to hold onto.

too hard to hold onto.... now that's funny!:D

Actually, I do like these serrations in that application. And I was thinking the same thing. Very good grasshopper.;)

Will Busse be offering a sheath for this knife once the website is up and running?

Dylan,

It is my understanding that Busse Combat is officially out of the sheath making business. With the standard models they will be offering, they will be offering to provide a sheath by one of several different makers for an additional fee.

As to these special offers... like the Tanker A... you are kind of on your own. There are several sheathmakers here on the forums that you can contact about a carrying system for your new blade (most of them are the same ones who will be providing sheaths for the standard models).

Additionally, in the past sometimes, it was possible to contact Busse and have them send your blade directly to the sheathmaker of your choice. That way, the sheath gets made enroute, and you have a complete package when your blade arrives.

HTH.

Mmmkay...

Do you know who Busse is using for their Condura sheaths? Are there any members here or makers that you know of that do condura? I don't know of any myself.

Jerry has mentioned someone but I wasn't familiar with their work and I don't remember the name. I do have an additional resource for such things if you want to contact me off line.

dylan_d,

As I recall I think Jerry said the cordura sheaths were going to be made by London Bridge Trading Co. (LBT). I've only seen 1 LBT sheath before, and it was a while back at Knob Creek. It didn't have the overkill factor that SOE sheaths have (the sheath makers for Strider knives), although it was far superior to the sheaths Eagle is currently producing. (POLYESTER seam tape instead of the correct nylon tape everyone else uses--and Eagle used to use before they went cheap, sloppy sewing, the folds in the pouches always misaligned...tighten up, Eagle!) I'm glad Jerry's dropping Eagle sheaths and taking the sheath cost out of the price of the knife. I was getting tired of paying for a cheaply & slovenly made sheath that I didn't want.

Earlier this year I contacted SOE about having a sheath made for one of my Busse's, and they told me they weren't interested in making sheaths for any non-Strider knives at the time. But if you want a cordura sheath with utility pouch a'la SOE, with the best materials and craftsmanship, try contacting Roger at Custom Tactical Creations
( www.customtactical.com ), or Gene at High Speed Gear
( www.highspeedgearinc.com ). These two guys, along with SOE, represent the top tier of the custom tactical gear making industry. It doesn't get any better than theirs.

I am dissappointed to hear Eagle turned out some crappy sheaths. I have used their rucks and small packs for a few years and was always happy. I have NEVER heard bad from LBT or Tactical Tailor (Kifaru is another top quality ruck) and just a plug for a friend while we are talking gear... for some of the best rifle slings made- Tactical Intervention Slings by Mike Miller, even Brownells has started buying some to stock.

Anxiously awaiting word on that Tanker A...

Excellent info, thank you very much :) I will try and contact those guys if I do manage to get on of these tanker a's.

lmalterna,

I have an Eagle Becker patrol ruck that I really like, but had to send back for repair as soon as I got it because the huge velcro area that grips the waist strap had dry-rotted, and also the drawcord that is sewn into the collar of one of the 4 outside pouches pulled right out the first time I tried to cinch it with the cordlock. They repaired it and it's fine now, but I think the design and features of the new Kifaru rucks will make the Becker design as archaic as the ALICE rucks are now.

Let me tell you how Eagle used to be just a few years ago, and has the potential to be: I have an older Eagle sheath that was made for a first production run INFI SH2 I have, and the quality of the materials and workmanship is second to none. The seam tape was Military grade nylon, and it was DOUBLE TAPED, with flawlessly straight sewing!! Even the kydex (?) insert blew me away. I'm not sure if it was actually kydex or something similar, but it had a lining on the inside made of some type of very soft synthetic fur-like fiber that prevented the blade from getting scratched, even when sheathed with dirt, sand or grit on the blade. It also helped airflow along the surface of the blade to facilitate drying out. As if that weren't enough, the lip of the insert was perfectly cut to match the talon hole and the curvature of the micarta grips at the hilt. It was truly the feat of a top notch nylon taylor and materials expert. So I know what Eagle is capable of doing. That's why I'm so hard on them. The polyester seam tape they use now frays so easily and there's no excuse for cutting corners like that.

Eagle, take a minute to compare the sheaths you're cranking out now to the ones you made around '98 or so. We are buying Busse knives, for crying out loud! Doesn't that tell you something about us--that we want the best and we don't mind paying extra if it truly is the best?!? Cut costs on your BK&T sheaths if you must, but when you make a sheath for a Busse, make it the best you know how--Old School!!!

Rant mode off, sorry if off-topic.

Chris

Good question. I heard it had gone out already. Congrats to those hogs that snagged them up.

I was told almost a year ago by the folks at Eagle that they do not make sheaths anymore, period.

Did they lie to me?

From what I hear the guys at Tactical Tools make the best version of that style sheath, custom fit to your knife for about $50.00.
