He's Baaaaack.....

The food and accommodations are superb and the hunting is spectacular......So spectacular it is unbelievable and even afterwards it is almost a dream......So many birds- so few shells...... AAARGH.....

Sounds like a hell of a time!

that is a great trip and affordable. Never seen that many doves in my entire life. great father / son get away. mind me asking how many shells you shot ? I've seen guys shoot over 2500 many days. I hope you took time to see some of the other wildlife, on the massive ranches they have. I was shocked to see so many real "cowboys" the beef is unreal and we ate lots of it. thanks for sharing your story. How was the weather, hot and Dry ??

Thanks for the welcome home........

To answer a few queries........ We hunted ducks, dove and pigeon....... First time duck hunting and it was more fun than I thought it would be..... The ducks were in Buenos Aires province and we stayed at a beautiful estancia that dated from the twenties...... We then flew to Tucuman and hunted around Termas del Rio Hondo......... Shot a bunch of dove for two days and then had the best wing shooting day I have ever had ....... Slightly more than three hundred pigeons for four hundred and seventy five shells......... For me this is a personal best...... Good time........ One of our number was so enthusiastic that even with his trigger finger tape up he got a blister and his fore finger appears to be permanently deformed.....Naturally enough his new nickname is Boom-Boom......

Argentina is a carnivores heaven..... The beef is out of this world good and plentiful in the extreme...... No portion control anywhere that I noticed......... Shirtsleeve weather with only one little sprinkle at the very last to remind us it was time to leave anyway......

Spent a couple of days in Buenos Aires checking out the local knife scene and gorging on more great beef and the wonderful Malbec.......I have a Couple of friends now in BA and it was good to catch up, share a little vino and talk knives and make plans....... I always try to spend a little time at the Argentine National Arms Museum.... It is a real gem with some very rare guns, including a bunch of sub gun prototypes and some interesting Thompson accessories..... They have some very beautiful blades and pole arms on display all in a very intimate setting...... Very nice

It is good to be back.....

Sounds like an amazing trip.
I'm blown away by stories of such massive takes.
Does anyone know what kind of management practices are in place to keep the Argentine birds from going the way of the passenger pigeon?

I had a friend do this trip several years ago and he told me that the "doves" that they shoot aren't like the doves up here and that they are worse than sparrows - literally millions of them, relatively few predators and a flock can strip grain fields in days, one of the reasons they have hunts like this.

Welcome back, Uncle E. Sounds like a good time and good hunting, and that museum sounds really interesting, too!

Hey Grinter.......

Approximately twenty percent of all cereal grains grown in Argentina disappears down the gullets of wild birds........the roosts are measured in the millions ........ We often shoot a dove roost that boasts of six million birds.....SIX MILLION!!!!!!!... Game Management has given way to desperation .......... BTW the passenger pigeon had a natural implosion because, as my wise friend Bill Adams pointed out to me, there is no way the U.S. Could have manufactured enough shells to kill that many birds....... Maybe hunters delivered the coup de grace....... If Argentina has a die off it will be disease born I suspect....... When you first get to the field you can hear the roost like a giant bee hive humming loudly in the distance...... Very weird...... Very exciting......

Maybe some sort of belt fed punt gatling gun is in order...

Hey Big Hoss......

My shell bill is already a bit over the top !!!!!!!......... Even a Gatling would not, I fear, make a tiny dent........ Air strikes and napalm might get their attention.......LOL...... I am just thinking what the shell bill would be for that one roost and I think it would be, figuring a fifty percent hit ratio about six million bucks....... Shells are right at fifty cents a piece......

Staggering, simply staggering...........

Start a non-profit organization with the goal of controlling the population of certain species around the world, then get the government of whatever nation that needs something killed to flip the bill. You could be like an international exterminator.

Or get Jorg Sprave to build a slingshot to launch BK9's into the air. Nothing can withstand the power of The King.
