hey it's Sunday Guys? what the he!! are you doing anyway (:>(

I'm here on the computer until sunday school. Still looking here, and going to sites on burners and forges.

Spent most of yesterday in the shop. Refinished a japanese cooking knife for my boss and played with HTing 1095 with MAPP and brine. Got some really pretty hamons. Maybe I'll go try it on a real blade tonight after I drill some holes and turn a Loveless bolt or two.

FYI: a full-height drill press with a paint-mixing bit and a spackle bucket makes a really great brine mixer.

I'm casting a bronze handle for my Bowie!
Then I'm going to the dump, then I'm going to clean up the bronze and sand blast it so I can truck bed liner...coat it tomorrow.

cool you using the auto store type or the pro type if it's the pro type
what's it costing now adays? I alway thought that stuff might be a good
use on knives..tuff and it will stand the summer heat

just got a though Don (that's 2 in a month now :) )

if you are casting anyway why not cast some bosses on the sides
work them up with a file the coat the handle then once set up finish
the bossed sides down to the Brass it would look like Brass inlays. :D

I'm using the auto store type. I've had good luck with it so far. I put some on the Aceital handle I had and I've really put that hatchet through the mill and still haven't chipped the liner.

Not a bad idea about the bosses but it's already cast, ground and I've got it covered with epoxy now.

Maybe next one.

See ya 'round IG, again HB :D

Dan, I got off the puter earlier, went out to the garage/shop to drill a hole down the center of a block of wood for the handle of a big blade I'm makin' and the 3/16" X8" drill bit broke off in the wood   ....so now I'm back on the puter, till my wife finishes makin' supper.....rib eye on the grill (we use it 360:D ), roasted red taters, (umm, umm:D ) and salad.

I am too far from all of you but i am working hard to be a decent bladesmith. I have good intentions and i am determied. But on this sunday i think i am a bit tried of this bussiness. Is hand rubbing the D2 must be so difficult? My back hurts, my right ankle is in pain. Sunday aching Sunday...

Well, Sunday's about over, but I had a nice day outside getting my med. dirk (my first knife) ready for HT. later this month, I have a guy who's going to heat treat it (and I get to watch, what better way to learn

Dave

I didn't do anything related to knives today. Went to the firing range around noon for about 3 hours. Trying to stay tuned a little with the .45.

I have been baby sitting my dad. His knees are shot and he can't walk now for the last week. He is on MS Contin and vicodin to try and kill the pain and it isn't doing much. I finally got a little sleep last night for the first time in a few days. But I have been reading the forums and took some pictures of some forge building stuff and posted some questions. Also p.o.'d some forum members. That has to be worth something. :D

Well I didn't got a damn thing accomplished this weekend. :grumpy: We've been short on help at work and everyone has had to pick up some extra workload. I've been sleeping my butt off this weekend. That job wears me out. I'll get back into some knife work this week.

Did a heat treat on a dagger yesterday. Going to do the finish grind and etch tonight. This one gets a cordwrap. Scott, I'll see you at the CBKC meeting tomorrow, Maybe I'll have it done by then.

I cleaned stalls this morning, then finished rough grinding a blade I cut out yesterday, carved my mark in it and heat treated it. Also ground and finished the handle on another small knife I've been working on. Has a coat of danish oil on it drying right now. Then I rode my horse.
Now I'm gonna sit on my ass or maybe just go to bed cause I was out late with friends friday and saturday night and have gotten a total of about 7 hours of sleep so far this weekend

I took him to the doc the other day when he could still stand and he said there was nothing more he could do, he needed them replaced. He fell off a bridge on a construction job in 94 and been dealing with it since. Anyway, he has an appointment the 18th to talk to a surgeon but he doesn't have much money coming in, only his partial retirement and ss (he just turned 62 this last August) We are trying to talk him into it. I will sell some of my cars and stuff if he will do it because I can't see him suffer anymore like he is now.
