Ok, here we go.
The beginning, I went to SMKW to replace a broken Kabar 1217. While I was waiting on the lady to come open the case, I spotted the BKT stuff, made by Camillus. I walked out with 2 BK7's and 2 1217's. That's how I first come to know BKT.
Fast forward to early 2010, I finally joined BFC after years of reading and lurking. My first post was here in the Becker forum, and it was basically in introduction. I read, posted, posted and read, until I found out that Ethan lived about 20mins from me. Through posts and email, we met up for lunch one day, spent 2 hrs talking and BSN. We pretty much hit it off as friends, and getting to talk to someone I respected, and kinda idolized, was pretty awesome. We've met every week for lunch, sometimes twice, I go hang out at his place, help out when I can. Ethan's my friend. A good friend, and one of the most interesting people I have ever met.
Do I work for KABAR? No, i don't, never have. I don't work for anyone, except my dayjob company. I call what I do here, my fun job. I have a blast helping Ethan, and Kabar out, and I love the forums, and the outdoors.
Now, my fun job is a little more than just kicks. If you know the story of BKT, you will know that this is really the only proffitable time in BKT history. At one point, it cost Ethan money, to be in the knife industry. If you know how Ethan was taken advantage of, by people and companies, you will know why I do what I do.
BKT has been around nearly 30yrs, yet some folks have never heard of the knives. I wanted to change that, so, with support from Ethan, and Kabar, it started.
When I first came to the BKT forum, we had 8 people viewing during prime time. Last night, we had 63 viewing, at 10 mins til midnight EST. I htink we are getting the name out there, and Ethan is enjoying this place and you guys. He loves coming on here, and seeing all of ya'll, and what you say, and what you do. I done this, for my friend.
Now, KABAR is one great company. I've been in love with Kabar knives, since I was a kid. Getting to work along side them, here, and at show's, is a dream come true, for a knife nut. Like I said, I don't work for them, but I do have access to them, on an as needed basis. Same as ya'll do, only I get a little more info, because I mod here, and I like to tease ya'll.
I have a house, 2 cars, 2 kids, a full time job, hobbies, friends, same as most everyone else, I don't get paid to be here, and do this stuff, I do it, because I want to. The "free knives" I get, are for you guys. I don't keep anything that Kabar/Ethan send me, I give it away here, in the BKT forum. To date, I've given away over 75 knives, some, have never been publisized here, I just find someone that wants one, and I send it to them. That's how it works.
I want to be here, and I want all of ya'll to be here, and I want to have some fun here. I try to make this place, the kinda place Ethan, Me, ya'll, and everyone else, can laff, cutup, have fun, and just enjoy some knives, and some bullshit.
When Ethan had me setup as a mod, he told me he wanted a campfire type community, where we can all talk abou the stuff we like. I think we have made it work, just like that.
There ya go.
