Greetings,
Of course this has been the crappiest year of recent memory and it has affected literally everything everywhere. Just curious if we are any closer to seeing a military with the compression lock anytime soon. This is probably my most anticipated Spyderco ever, even though I still love my liner lock version. Hell, why not make both??? Anyway thanks!

im sure this will be an unpopular opinion BUT

with all due respect to the comp lock, i think a lockback would be more faithful to the mission of the spyderco military (high-performance, light-weight folder designed for hard use.) than a comp lock... if they could put a triad lock in a spycerco military i would be in for one.

I base this on cold steel lock tests and bladehq lock tests. interesting watch for anyone interested. i get that these numbers really wont be fair unless each lock type is tested on the same knife (sypderco military) but... that is a reality we will not see anytime soon, if ever at all... unless someone wants to spend the money and run these tests on the sage series...

liner lock: 47.1 lbs
compression lock: 108.9 lbs
lock back: the lock mechanism is stronger than the actual blade

I do think lock strength is important to a degree, but at the same time, the Comp lock is plenty strong for hard use. Plus, I suspect most people wanting this like the easy of use of the Comp lock. The Native Chief is pretty close to a lockback Military.

i think i would agree with you if we were talking about folders in a general sense. but we are talking about the spyderco military specifically. and i think the fact that this knife was made for military use is lost. though this knife is available to most people, its not designed or originally intended for most people. This knife is sal's answer to the question "If your son were going into the military what folding knife would you send him with?" ... ALSO no girls allowed. only sons can buy this knife ( just kidding about the no girls allowed... i was being literalistic :P )

If you ever had to pack for a military deployment to a place where you are getting hazard pay, you tend to care more about lock strength than ease of use. especially if you have gloves on.

I'll agree comp lock is strong, and i've never had a second thought about it in my para2. but if there was something stronger than a comp lock and im going to be spending time in hell (over dramtic? lol ) i would want that. I suppose this is where you and i disagree. you say lock strength is important to a degree ( i will agree to that for general folders ). but for this specific knife, lock strength is one of the most important aspects of the spyderco military because lock strength directly translates to hard use. Also lock backs in terms of locking performance outclasses all other lock types second only to the triad lock.

and that circles back to my point of the original mission of the knife, and which lock style is most faithful to that mission: "high performance, light weight, hard use" https://www.spyderco.com/catalog/details.php?product=19

totally forgot about that native chief... that knife is a beast

As I remember, the design is for a 4 way.

Also, the plan is to run both the Linerlock and Compression lock models.

That's pretty sweet, Sal. Look forward to those in the future. Speaking of the future, we're almost done with this year and a better one to all for the next.

Sweet!! Looks like I will have the Millie on my list when the drop the compression lock model.

I've bought an sold the Military 3 times over the past 15 years. I find myself back in favor of longer blades. Hope to see this soon.
