Hey you Hogs: Which folder for EDC?

Well, all depends on what you want to do with it. I'm with Jaxx. Since I got my XM-18, it's almost all I carry. It's as close as you can get to a Busse folder (IMO) until Jerry let's loose the real thing.

When I'm not at work and I want to carry something a little lighter, I usually grab my sm. classic Sebenza. These two get the most folder pocket carry, but I also rotate in a medium Case CV stockman, Rittergrip, SNG, Benchmade Ares, as well as a burgandy ZDP Caly, etc. All depends on my mood.

There's been a ton of great choices in this thread but in the end, it's all up to you and what you like. You can't go wrong with any of the folders that have been suggested.

I know I'll probably be an oddball here. I used to carry a large classic Sebenza, but since I got a Victorinox Trekker, the Sebbie has stayed in a drawer at home.

Hi,

I've been carrying a Combat Elite RRF everyday now for a year and it is an unbelievable knife. It is built like a tank and stays wicked sharp and operates so smooothly. I have Sebenza's, Emersons, Microtechs, Ryans, MOD's , Benchmades, Spyderco's etc. and this is my favorite of all of them. Like a Busse, if I picked just one it would be the above knife! Good Luck and best,

Joe

Thanks for all the responses so far - keep 'em coming!

I'll end up getting a small seb, but I'll probably get the Al Mar SERE 2K as well. Oh, and the limited edition Military in BG42, although I won't be EDCing that.

I'm not a knife knut. Seriously. I only like knives. Busses, of lately. No, I mean, I can stop thinking 'bout them anytime. I just need a nice EDC blade. Really. :D

Now if only I could find the Lochsa available anywhere (wanders away)...

Cheers, Rok

I have really been wanting to try out a Strider AR or XM-18. But I am still skiddish of folders and failure.

I have a dual action Lightfoot LLC Microtech that hasnt let me down for a few years now...My custom shop game warden is my first foray in carrying a straight knife ...I always seem to catch it on things....oh well

Rat Trap! Hands down my favorite folder!

The hard part is that folks keep trying to buy it.....

I also have an Emerson CQC-10 (got a screamin' deal) but haven't carried it yet because I like the Rat Trap soooo much.

Rok, you might also check out our friends at BTI. The line has grown and they've got some very nice knives.

I rotate the following:

Lg. regular Sebenza
Al Mar Sere 2000- I have 2 of these
Microtech Socom Elite Manual- 2 of these also
Spyderco Manix -too big for everyday for me
Bechmade Stryker M2

The Sebenza by far gets the most pocket time, followed by the SERE. Love either one for EDC.

For EDC usually my Elisawitz Ebony Emperor 2 3/4 inch blade. When I need more blade, I switch to my Large Sebenza. If I had to keep only one I would probably go with the Sebenza because the larger size is good for more chores and field use. The little Emperor is more urban. I own only two folders.

Cuda Talonite folder does the trick for me. On Sunday I might pop a 112 in my pocket just for grins.

-Spyderco Native
-SAK Waiter

Both razer sharp. I used to carry a small classic Sebenza, but lost it. Now I carry a Black Micarta DC GW instead.

TL, can't speak for the AR but have no worries with a Hinderer XM-18. The knife is built like a tank and would be Busse-like in its ability to handle abuse. Rick's designs are very functional and extremely smooth in action. He makes all parts in his shop, even the screws , and they are hand assembled and checked for QC, so basically you would be getting a semi-custom folder that you should have no qualms about using.

I've had a couple of the quality, bigger folders: Manix and Skirmish. A bunch of little Spydercos and Benchmades. Also, a Microtech or two.

It's been a surprise to me but, over the last year, I've transitioned to carrying some of the Kershaws with the Sandvik (sp?) steel. The JYD2 and the Cyclone. In the world of little folder, I've been carrying the Leek in G10 and S30V. For me, I'm happy if the folder is just a slicer.

I have a tendency to lose folders.

I will admit, I EDC 2 folders. One's the smaller Manix, and it's my ' big' knife. The other is a simple little gent's folder in stainless from Moki in Japan. I'd like to replace the Manix with a fixed blade though. A nice custom GW or something along those lines, I think.
