Thanks for the help. I still can't believe the owner was so mellow about letting me weild it. The pattern weld on the blade was still visible and the edge was still sharp in a few places.

don't you love catching those things, foo? i lived in florida for a few years in the early 80's and would get down to the dry tortugas about 3 or 4 times a year. used to love fishing for 'cuda, they'd hit anything shiny and fight like a mother. coming from the PNW i used the stuff i had at the time, which was steelhead gear, it was always fun and made it a pretty fair fight.
