I've read several threads on these, so gotta ask about the different versions.
There are MO's...which I get that they were possibly offered at Ganza's or shows.(Penetrater Tips?)
But some have corrugated sides up to about an inch or better from tip, some have corrugated marks up to tip?
Then there's the flat grinds I'm guessin with No corrugated sides...
All 1/4" thick I'm thinkin too?
LE's & Sacred Comp. Finish models too.
I'm thinkin that some of you guy's got all these...Any info on timeline & corrugated marks appreciated!;)

What to say about the HG55? Legend has it that someone asked Jerry once why it was called that and he said in plain English: "It's a Hog, and it's 5.5" Long"..............Anyway I have attached a pic of my well worn Smoothside 55 purchased from forum member STJONES years ago in a streak of good favor that I am grateful for.... No corrugated bevels to hang up on deer, fish, or hog flesh. This knife is the only knife I have owned in 30 years of buying blades that can literally do it all. Balanced enough to defend myself with if needed, can fillet fish, skin deer or hogs, baton wood, and is not a load on my side during an all day hike. It would take about 10 crisp 100 dollar bills in my hand for this to leave my possession. My favorite knife hands down after buying blades for 30+ years. Easy to sharpen. Nuff said........

P.S. This was sold once in an act of dire need and I actually tracked the forum member down and bought it back at a premium at a later date!! :D

Nice...
Can't say I've ever tracked down a knife that I've sold & bought it back---Strong Statement on that Blade!
Do it All Blade....
Thanks for Postin.

Are all of the configurations .25" thick? Could someone please post a spine shot with other blades maybe?

Can someone please explain to me the purpose of the vertical corrugations. I get the transverse ones (like on the combat grade battle mistresses and 2008 hell razors) in theory at least , those reduce weight while maintaining some of the structural rigidity of the thicker ridges. Knives never split longitudinally when they break so the horizontal corrugations make sense and minimally weaken the blade. When knives do break, they do so in the short axis of the knife, so it seems that a vertical corrugation just creates weak points in the blade and creates more resistance to slicing. Likely Jerry has some logic here that has escaped me, and I would love someone to educate me, but I have always felt like the corrugated 55s were kind of the engineering version of the nuclear seahorse.

Makes it Hurt worse when you stab something ;)
Looks Cool too.

I think fhm hit all the high points, it is an excellent all around blade that you can carry all day with no issue. Mine was my first Busse and my most prized blade. I have a limited edition with tigerhide scales and a convex edge, but what is really cool to me is that it's #55. It is a superb skinning knife. If you are considering an HG55 don't hesitate, they are excellent, as for the different versions I have not had the pleasure to own any of them yet

Wow Nem that is a beauty!!!

Thank you sir. It is the pride of my small collection. I would like to add one of the corrugated models with a penetrator tip but have only seen one up for sale and didn't have the cash at the time. The HG55 is the one busse I could justify owning a few of

Jerry has a post he did about the design purpose of CBT on a special HG55 he had for a Ganza years ago. I need to find that old post.

Sometimes its the little things...

Now this is small detail, but one that I really like; the talon hole/guard on the HG55 and Urban Grudge is taller and narrower than the typical talon hole. I like this style much better as it gives more protection during a thrust (these are fighter designs and I bet this was done on purpose), and also I find my fingers fit around guard more comfortably when using the choil with this shaped talon. Opinions on small vs large vs no choil will vary, but my least favorite of these combinations is a wide talon with small unusable choil; it keeps the base of the blade away from the index finger where leverage is the greatest. I have an UG and kind of have the same attachment to it that fhm615 has to his HG55.

I've always wanted one, and was shocked to find a CG, full large CBT in the trough raid at blade this year, with Tiger Hide! It didn't take me long to strip the black crinkle coat and do a hillbilly competition finish, and a wicked polished convexed edge, the CBT makes it look like it has teeth! :D

I may end up doing an Urban Grudge handle Mod like AValenz done in this thread, I think it looks pretty sweet!
