Hi output flashlights

How safe are these CR123 batteries used in flashlights like the Surefire 6P?
I have a 6P in the BR fully loaded. Is this a sure fire waiting to happen?

I have been reading about lots of lithium batteries torching computers, flashlights, and other stuff.

If I get any future lights, should I stay with AA or just a single 123?

Keeping an emergency flashlight empty is like leaving a gun unloaded. At least with the gun, you can put it in a pushbutton safe.
 
Don't mix new and used batteries, or batteries of different makes in your light. Don't leave it on in your pocket. There are many more dangerous threats out there.
 
If there is a real risk of fire, a "hot closet" may be even less desirable than a "hot pocket." Store empty?
