Question Hide politics subforum from New Posts?

If the ignore function was utilized those thread titles would not be viewable.
The problem with that, is there are actually a couple of prolific PA posters who DO post in knife related threads that I follow...pretty dang annoying to either have choppy threads or click "view ignored content" on actual knife talk because the PA is "special" somehow.

I started this thread and I'm happy to address this: My concern is exactly what I stated in the OP. I don't have a hidden agenda.

I don't come to BF for politics. I come here for knife discussion and, secondarily, off-topic chatting with fellow knife knuts that doesn't include politics. I use the "New Posts" feature as my main window into the forums, since I like that it surfaces threads I otherwise might have missed, and there are days when just scrolling past some of the political thread titles sours my mood.

As noted in my first response to Spark in this thread, it's not a big deal and I can continue avoiding it, just like I do multiple times a day. But if there's a simple technical solution, like a way to opt out of seeing specific subforums, I'd love for that to be an option. It would benefit folks like me and have zero impact on anyone else.
Maybe so. To tell you the truth, I wouldn’t care one way or the other.

But it begs the question, why do you even care? I would have said that the way it is now has “zero impact” on everyone; I find it weird and amusing that people feel that much angst merely being aware of the presence of politics somewhere. There’s a driver for every human angst; and knowing that somewhere on BladeForums someone is talking politics is disproportionate to the observable reaction.

You yourself may be up front about it. I’m pretty sure a lot of your compadres are not.

[Bold mine]

Were you trying to be ironically funny?

Except it's not "merely being aware of the presence of politics somewhere"...it's in my face every time I use the "New Posts" search function.

I agree with this and would greatly appreciate not having to be bombarded with offensive political crap when I hit the "new posts" button, a function I use all the time to see what is going on around the forum. It would be one thing if the pa was an actual open arena where all opinions are welcomed but that isn't the case. Incredibly indecent and offensive content is posted on a regular basis as well. Some things said there, and the behavior of the locals is far worse than other sections that are hidden, and I do agree with hiding those other sections. The pa is like if say, the axe forum only allowed a specific extreme type of axes to be discussed that the majority of the population doesn't care to understand. It only serves one purpose.

Folks who know the pa is there also know how to see if there are new posts by going there. It's not that difficult. Wanting it on the new post page is just an excuse to get the rest of us to look at it and a way for the regulars to promote their ideology as standard practice here at bladeforums. It isn't, and it makes us all look bad.

Please get rid of it from new posts, like is done for w&c and the cove.

One thing wroth mentioning is that a lot of the PA threads are started by the moderators. I know ignoring a forum mod wasn't allowed in the old software. I think it is now, but people who have been here a while might not be aware of that change.
Members have the ability to block Mods unless they have a "Staff Member" banner, doesn't matter whether their "Red" Mods or Super Mods, without the SM banner they can be blocked.
because the PA is "special" somehow.
Nobody said the PA was special.
