Is anyone familar with HideAwayKnifes? I ordered the HAK Utility knife about a month and a half ago, and I was wondering if anyone that bought one before dealt with an extremely long wait for it? If so, how long exactly; and are they a reliable company or should I get my money back through Paypal?

They have had problems in the past with this same issue, I thought they changed ownership and fixed that problem... but maybe not.

My experience... I have bought 3 haks, one titanium "ice on mars" straight, a 440 cat claw (given to my ex girlfriend) and a S30V Coogler custom cat claw. The coogler was the last one I ordered and it took about 3 weeks before my package arrived, it was from the "available" section. Worth the wait, wickedly sharp (Unlike the 440 which needed some sharpening). About two weeks after ordering I sent an email to check if my order was received. It took a couple of days for the reply but i eventually got a reply from William. My blade arrived a couple of days later. Just shoot him an email. Make sure your sending it to the one he uses. I believe there is one that is out dated.

I am satisfied enough that I ordered another Coogler Custom this week... a straight in S30V i paid with paypal.

I hope you get a chance to communicate via email with him. IMHO, there worth the wait.

Now if I could only get my hands on a Warrren Thomas Trex HAK :-)

You're likely to receive your utlilty HAK this week. I just spoke with him a few days ago regarding the matter. I received my tiger claw last week, and the utlity should be coming this week. I do feel that its uncool to have 'avaiilable now' knives take so long, it took me about 6 weeks as well, but I've dealt with him in the past and have been quite happy.

S.C. are you sure about this because if so, I am very happy... And I did send him plenty of emails and none were responded which is why I got worried...

I don't know why his service is so hit or miss, I just exchanged 4 emails with him over the past several hours (questions regarding sizing), I've even talked with him over the phone chatting about his products. No, I don't have any affiliation with William or HAK, but I have purchased several HAKs, but I don't feel its enough to warrant preferential treatment. I hope all you guys get your utility hak this week.

Thanks for the help and info S.C. And also I wasn't able to find his number online, and I have been trying to get a hold of him since my emails are obviously not going through; but what is his number?

I recently got my fifth HAK from them. Good contact, pretty fast shipping (2 weeks from there to Germany!), extremely HOT knives!

Yeah I know it doesn't look good, but so many other people have had positive experience with them; and even on their website it says it can take up to 6 weeks to make the sheath, so I have been giving them time. Now its been a bit too long, and thats why I am wanting their number that S.C. says he has. And I message him twice posted in here many times for the number and I haven't gotten a response...

people are quick to warn others to never pay a maker in advance. If your money was taken and you haven't recieved the product OR communication , well to me , that sounds like someone who runs a poor business.

I have heard more horror stories like yours , than I have heard good regarding HAK. Knowing many of the makers who USED to grind knives for them , there must be a reason they no longer grind them.

Buyer beware , besides there are plenty of other makers/companies out there that will treat you like a customer should be.

I referred plenty of customers their way years ago , but never again.

its one thing to pay up front prior to the knife being made and quite another to pay up front expecting(from the website) the thing to be in stock, point being if they imply its in stock and ya order/pay & its not, then the biz is at least a little "shady" imho.

IIRC they are at least delivering the things its just taking wayy longer than expected.

if i wanted a HAK, i think i would try and find one on the secondary market vs buying direct.

i would sure call & not depend on the website for availability questions as the site doesnt seem to be accurate in that regard.

all the problems have shied me off, i have been thinking of getting one for a while now, i like the yurcos myself, & the striders, brum is cool too, but i dont think i'll order from them till they get there biz together.

I think you will be hard pressed to get a HAK from any of those guys. coogler maybe, I think everyone else got the shaft from the HAK company.

Watch the secondary market or post "knife wanted" is what I suggest, if anyone cares LOL

It's been about a week and a half since every Utility was supposed to be shipped. I understood the delays with the sharpening and sheathing, but I'm still not sure what kind of shipping service they use, but this is quite a waiting game.
