High End Carry Knife

I absolutely love my small sebenza, but I just don't see myself buying another CRK any time soon. I've come to realize that while the sebenza is a fantastic design, it's a little bit boring, and just not as fun of a knife as some others. For example, I prefer my m4 ritter mini grip with custom cf micarta scales to my small sebenza more often than not. That realization, combine with some of the stuff that went down at blade show (I won't go into specifics for the sake of not causing a ruckus, but in short, Chris flat out just isn't very nice...) really left a bad taste in my mouth. Striders have always caught my eye, but first and foremost I like my knives fo cut well, and striders are just too thick to cut like I want. I am not a LEO/military/fire/emt so a hinderer at a reasonable cost is not an option for me. So of the big three (CRK, Strider, Hinderer), I'd probably still pick a sebenza for edc, but if I were to spend that kind of money again, I'd step up my game and go full custom.

Boy, you guys live in a different world than I do! Looks like only a few have ever been used.

Same knife in different lighting.... ;)

That's the motivation I needed!:D Thank you for the advice. I think I will be placing my order quite soon!

I wish you good luck. You'll also find good value here on the Exchange. I have owned perhaps 15-20 Sebenzas in both small and large sizes and in many models: inlays, graphics, plain-Jane...25, 21's, Classic, Regular. I have often purchased NIB or ANIB, but have never (yet) felt the need to purchase from a dealer. Some folks buy ONLY from a dealer. Different strokes.

Do be careful that you buy the proper size to fit your hand. If the small fits okay, the large is MUCH too large. And vice versa.
Chris Reeve receives the Blade Show's Manufacturer's Award every year...for a darned good reason. Enjoy your Sebbie!

I wasn't there; don't know or care what went down, but he sure does run a good shop. Not sure that you're treating him fairly here, when he's not here to defend his "whatever."
I am concerned much more with the quality and utility of the folder...than with the personality of the guy who made it.
MAYBE...he had a bad day...

This is off topic, but would you guys suggest I buy the calfskin pocket pouch along with the Sebenza? Or is this not really needed?

Check your state knife laws. In Oregon it's illegal to carry a knife "concealed" in your pocket. As long as part of it is showing (like the clip) you can carry pretty much anything. I don't try to protect my knife handles from scratches anyway because I like the worn look.

Actually, all of mine are frequently in my pocket for use.....I don't have a lot of use for a knfie during my day. But what little use they can get they do.

Although all the pictures are from when I a) Just got them or b) gave them a little polish beforehand.

You're probably right, I may have been too quick to judge, but these aren't the first reports of Chris not being such a pleasant guy. He surely does put out a FANTASTIC product, and I have tremendous respect for the knives he makes, I have one in my edc rotation and I have no issues with it what so ever. But for many of us, this hobby is heavily based on the community, and as such, the people behind the company can have an impact. Again, Chris Reeve's knives are fantastic, arguably the best production knives on the planet with regards to build quality and consistency, but there are other knives out there with features I generally prefer. That fact, combine with the cold shoulder Chris often seems to turn to the community has driven me to spend my money elsewhere as of late.

Looks like mine, ;), the first scratch was the hardest, after that I was happy 'cause I want afraid to use it now...

Large Seb 21. The small is great but I have an Mnandi which I prefer for small carry. And I just LOVE the pocket stonewash look so I don't ever have to be afraid to carry it and use it...

Another vote for the Small Sebenza. For my purposes, however, I chose the Knifeart.com Carbon Fiber Exclusive. At 2.3 ounces, it's every bit as strong as the full Ti product and basically disappears in my pocket. I also have a Small Ironwood Sebenza but it doesn't get carried as often as my CF does.

Another CRK user/carrier checking in. Although I've turned 'traditional', I still carry a modern one-hander daily. Nine times out of ten, it'll be one of these:

My personal preference in a pocket knife is based on more than just cutting performance; I consider it a personal effect as well as a tool. I like a quality knife that carries comfortably/securely, looks good and can still get the job done. I reckon CRK's just fulfill more of my checklist criteria than others... :)

I certainly agree that opinions may vary on the knives and the folks who run the companies. I guess I am more focused on the knife itself. The "people" that I give credence to...are the ones who run Customer Service, as they have a direct impact on my satisfaction with a particular brand. I have used Customer Service with three of my preferred brands (CRK, Strider, Spyderco) and have been completely satisfied.

It's a bit like my car. I don't care who makes my Chevy; one CEO or management group is much like another. They may wish to make the customer happy, but some of this is based upon profit motive rather than altruism. I don't know the knife community at all. I have friends and acquaintances who are end users, and I'm quite satisfied with that.

That combo is perfect 4 me too. I've been carrying the ps4-small sebenza combo for about1year now and i love it!...so much that i made some s90v blades for both of them(+ the ps4 has ben seriously moded with cf scales, special grooved pivots, black oxide screws, phsfor bronze washers and a brakeaway lanyard 4 neck carry).
The small Sebenza fits my hand perfecty and imo is the perfect small, urban, high end edc.
Mi 2cents worth:))

I'd like to see both the Seb and the PS4, especially with custom blades installed.

They sure don't look used, daisy. I guess I work my knives a little harder than most of you high end types. Of course, I wouldn't buy a high end knife in any event. I'm good with Buck, Fallkniven, Victorinox, and Benchmade knives.

My high-enders have been in the sub-$250. range, with a mod'd Kershaw Ti JYD II with SG2 being the nicest. Still wish I had that one. They sold for around $140., and I can't find it for less than $225.-$250. now.

At $495...

Man, I love that design. I've got a cheapy S&W that is a little bit similar to the one in your pic - at least the pivot area is. When I'm through school and back to work, this one's on my short list.

In the meantime I might have to mug somebody in Fresno for theirs. ;)

Thanks, I'm carrying it right now :)
