Rayback,
I have no survival experience, but have done a little backpacking/camping but it looks like I recently went down this same decision path. If you havent done so already I would highly recommend reading the US Rescue and Special Operations Group manual http://www.us-rsog.org/USRSOG-Manual.htm
Also if you plan on traveling with this knive a bit, think about weight. Are you really gonna want to carry a 1+ lb knive with you.
For most things I plan on having with me combinations of a lightweight folding or buck saw, a SAK, and the ritter (benchmade 552) RSK mk1 http://www.equipped.com/rsk_mk1.htm.
More in line with what you are asking about I had narrowed it down to between Falkniven A1 and Swamp Rat M6. I went with the SwampRat https://www.shop.ratknives.com/displayProductDocument.hg?productId=63&categoryId=1. Dont bother with their cordura sheath.
The M6 seams to be pretty much indestructable and very heavy. I can chop oak with it (seems to work best with hand on back of handle with flicking wrist type motion). It looks like I would be able to use it for entrenching without too much damage from rocks but have yet to try this.
Enjoy your search
