High End survival knife

Rayback,

I have no survival experience, but have done a little backpacking/camping but it looks like I recently went down this same decision path. If you havent done so already I would highly recommend reading the US Rescue and Special Operations Group manual http://www.us-rsog.org/USRSOG-Manual.htm

Also if you plan on traveling with this knive a bit, think about weight. Are you really gonna want to carry a 1+ lb knive with you.

For most things I plan on having with me combinations of a lightweight folding or buck saw, a SAK, and the ritter (benchmade 552) RSK mk1 http://www.equipped.com/rsk_mk1.htm.

More in line with what you are asking about I had narrowed it down to between Falkniven A1 and Swamp Rat M6. I went with the SwampRat https://www.shop.ratknives.com/displayProductDocument.hg?productId=63&categoryId=1. Dont bother with their cordura sheath.

The M6 seams to be pretty much indestructable and very heavy. I can chop oak with it (seems to work best with hand on back of handle with flicking wrist type motion). It looks like I would be able to use it for entrenching without too much damage from rocks but have yet to try this.

Enjoy your search

I just checked out both of those websites. Thanks. Fehrman's knives are very sound looking. As are the Trident knives. I think I like Fehrman's the best.

If you want REAL high end go Beck or Linger WSK if you can find one, last time i saw a price on a beck it was 2800$ though! :(

Just as there are many gifted knife makers out there, coming up with new ideals for crafting new ideas for "survival knives".
You can be certain that it's going to over complicate the process of picking out "the right one".
Especially considering, practically everyone here hasn't quite put a stop to all that knife buying eversince day one of posting threads at this forum!
If I had to boil down my choice to only one knife, that would be the day I would have stop living.

BTW, don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but what about Farid Knives (UK)?

Selection of models looks massive and unduly overbuilt.
Could just be the ticket for some.

cs recon tanto will do anything you will need for around 70 clams.plus its not cool getting bitch slapped wearing a expensive survival knife.

You might consider Doug Ritter's new RSK Mk3 fixed blade knife for $165. S30V steel, G10 handle, 4.5" long blade, 0.14" thick, 5.7 oz. A great knife in the tradition of the now famous "Rittergrip".

yea it would be my choice also, you gotta remember what you want the knife for, if your looking to build shelter, cut wood, dig.......what ever, a good survival hatchet would be better for those task.

my rittergrip has been bullet proof............highly recommended.

Hello

I'm looking for an High-End survival knife, made from an highend steel.
A type of steel which will be as strong as possible, resistant to bending, holding its edge.
Any suggestions?

thanks for the help
Ray
Go for a CPM3V blade.
