High quality, reasonable cost knives from Russia, China, etc.

There are a few makers that can be found on [a non-BF dealer sales site] that sell knives for under 400. I saw an integral with m390 and tritium insert for 330$. Search "bearing knife" sort by price high to low and have a look. There's a brand Maxace Knives. They did make some clones for awhile but seem to be making their own stuff now.

You DO know that both of the knives in question were manufactured in China...right?

Skulls have a long tradition of appearing on tactical gear, from patches to bandannas. You could just as easily say that the Kizer design was stolen from the back of a motorcycle jacket. I'm all for protecting actual and intellectual property, but criticizing a knife because of a public domain image is taking it too far.

I'm still enjoying my WE 606. I got a WE 605 the other day, but haven't had a chance to use it due to the Holiday. I'll share some impressions when I get a chance. I'd probably be looking to try one of the new Maxace knives, but I've put my knife buying on hiatus for the season...bummer.

So your being the devils advocate. no problem, whatever, its still made in its likeness. i didnt say it was a big deal, why are you pushing on about it?
yes, both are "made in" china. nothing wrong with that. the original knife designer of that kizer knife is not from china, but kizer makes the production knives for the maker.
Matt Cucchiara designed the kizer knife with the skull on it.

The only thing I'm pushing on about is accuracy. The two knives in question have nothing in common beyond a generic, cosmetic logo. I'm not being devil's advocate, I'm being logical.

So, in order of deserved hierarchy, which knives copied from the other?

K, Im the dealer for Kizer, Reate and Stedemon here in Indonesia, Admins, dont worry im not trying to sell anything here.

Based on my experience, heres a quick list of these knives in terms of quality, not prices.

1. REATE, theyre not cheap, but quality wise is just simply AWESOME.

2. KIZER, kudos to them for making so many different models with such high quality and consistency.

3. STEDEMON. Very competitive price in their lower end model, lots of improvements in such a short time.

Now Ive handled RIKE and Weknife, but decided not to put them in the list for lack of extensive knowledge and handling of their knives., but if i were to put them in the list, heres what it looks like....

1. REATE
2. KIZER
3. RIKE
4. WEKNIFE
5. STEDEMON

please do not get upset, these are just my personal verdict, its by no means a fact.

if you look at the range of knives you will see a huge difference between the type of knives between kizer and WE, rike, reate. kizer doesnt really do any midtech's. they are primarily sub 200$ knives. i dont even think many of there lineup have ceramic bearings, dual row bearings or ceramic detents, and not nearly the amount of milling as the rest. what i mean is i think they are a different class of knives. im not sure why you decided to rate them based on your limited experience with the other brands. so it appears that you are ranking what you sell higher because of that. just saying. i like kizer knives, but they are not in the same class as the other brands. kizer has some great flippers tho, they are excellent knives, and i wouldnt hesitate to recommend them, but your list, imho is not correct and may mislead people, but you were transparent in your experience so i cant really say much more than that. as for kizer being consistent, if you look at many of the reviews on sites like amazon, knifecenter etc, you can see many issues, meaning its not consistant.

Thanks for sharing your perspective and experience.

I have a hard time ranking the brands you mentioned as some have changed significantly. I have many first gen Kizers and they're great knives, but fairly "crude". The same could be said for the early VG10 Stedemon DSGs.

Reate emerged with incredible quality and just keeps ramping it up. WE is a relative newcomer and seem to have a solid grip on "flair" knives, but I'd love to see something a little different from them. I've only briefly handled a Rike so can't really comment.

There's such a gap between a Kizer Vanguard knife and a Kizer Blademaster knife, it's hard to find a quality level for an entire brand. I do know that they all keep pushing the quality envelope, and that's good for all of us. Sadly, the value may not be as great as it used to be.

I'm a latecomer to these higher-end Chinese manufacturers. I've had a chance to fondle a couple of Kizers and a few Reates. I've also read and watched videos. To me, Kizer's vast catalog cheapens the brand somewhat even though their higher-end stuff is pretty competitive. They also have too many models to keep track of and too many recurved blades for my liking. Some reports of quality issues have colored my perception as well.
Reate's designs are almost all appealing to me and their execution is consistent. But getting back to the origin of this thread, it seems they quickly refined and embellished their products and now command top dollar. Secondary market prices seem a bit soft. There were discounts on Reate at both GPKnives and BladeHQ recently. Of course discounting is not good for a premium brand. But I imagine they have a bright future. They certainly have my attention.
