High value fixed blade survival knife

What about the condor hudson bay? It is around 30 bucks and 1075 steel with a great leather sheath.

Best Value Fixed Blade Survival Knife for $40 or less.

I want to know what your top picks are for a do anything survival knife for a retail price, not suggested retail price, of under $40. My actual budget is higher, but I already have a knife picked out, and this is what is left over.

My next knife purchase is upon me, and much like everything else, I love finding things that punch well above their weight so to speak, be it wine, tech gadgets, firearms, whatever.

I already own a Frosts Mora 780 (love it)

I'm looking at the following seriously:

- Condor Tool & Knife Rodan
- Cold Steel Bushman
- Becker Necker

Are there any others I should consider?

Many many thanks,

GM

I think the BK11 is not comparable with Coldsteel Bushman and some of condor knives.
becuz I think it's smaller than these knives.
Bushman is a great value knife, but some say the steel hardness is not the same as the old model. It's pretty soft. and at the RC54, it's like spring blade :P the handle iss pretty slippery.
in this price range IMO the best blade is...one of the Condors. the Bushlore series have the drop point blade, thick spine too.
the 1075 steel is pretty good, it'll be easy to sharpen. (the bushlore blade shape really remind me th BK2, man) I think the bowie Condor is good too

Hang on, let me get my flame suit on...

...ok, I'm sure a lot of people here are going to hate this suggestion but...

Gerber Prodigy

I have its big brother, the LMF II, and it has taken everything I've thrown at it. It is a very high value survival knife in my humble opinion, and one I don't hesitate to abuse when necessary.

From what I've heard, the Prodigy is nearly as good, and should be right around your price range.

A little higher in price, and I've had no experience with it, but the Becker BK2 has been suggested to me several times.

At the low end of the spectrum, but an excellent value non the less, are Old Hickory small butcher and boning knives. Russell Green River knives are a great value also. I have a small butcher that is on par with the Mora high carbon knives and they sell a belt knife that would probably be better as a survival knife. If you have access to a drill press and a belt sander the Green River knives can be had in kit form.

If you catch a yard sale you might find a used one for a couple of bucks.

How's about a Cold Steel GI Tanto? I've heard they're pretty good for around $25...

well, actually when it comes to survival knives, lots of people prefer blade that has some belly on it, you know for skinning, slashing, slicing etc.
G.I tanto is good knife for the price, especially for combat since it's tanto point knife. so it might not be good choice for survival blade :P
If I have to choose one of those coldsteel 1055 fighting knife, I'd rather get the True flight trhower, it has some belly on it, spear point can be lashed to a pole as a spear, good balance, same price, same steel, cord wrap handle, better traction than poli handle of the G.I.
Over all I think condor is better than Colsteel 1055 blade, 1075cs, better blade shape. 5" blade would be even better chopper than gerber Prodigy IMO.
