High VALUE Knives

Well, knives have a lot more put in them than just the function.

I agree with the OP. I'll take funtion over supposed "materials & tolerances" anyday (whether it be knives, guns, or etc.). In fact, the OPs original point is proven IMO, when all a respondent can really say about their Seb, etc., is that it's "on a different planet", or "materials and tolerances", without any mention of what makes the knife superior by providing examples of real world usage (or by comparison during use to a "lesser" knife). Marketing hype, and Internet bandwagon fanboyism doesn't do it for me, and my comments have nothing to do with how much money one has to spend on a knife, or anyones "right" to buy what they want. Buy what you want. It just gets tiring listening to some people hype up their product as if they are somehow more enlightened, or possessing of some secret knowledge.

How the hell custom AD-10 and Coldsteel production aren't even on same planet? Just because difference on blade steel/handle material been used? or because AD-10 is you fav folder and you bough it?

Over exaggerated as always Mr.Ankerson.

On topic the best value knife for me is Spyderco Para2.

I think you need to read up on the history of the AD-10........ A lot more..... And no it wasn't my favorite knife, both of mine were built to my specs and most of the ones he does now are speced out like my 1st one, it's called the AD-10 Ankerson model. Like I said read up on things before you stick your foot in your mouth yet again.....

I don't have a favorite folder really, but if I had to pick one from what I own it would be my S90V Military.

folder .. Opinel 10 .. my all time favorite .

fixed esee2 , mora

they are my production made knifes that I go to .

The OP was pretty clear: he's asking about premium features at a surprisingly low price point. His premise tells you to exclude custom knives, but think about the shit they offer like super steels, high-end handle material, innovative locking mechanisms, super smooth bushings, etc.

I really like spyderco for the quality you get at a reasonable price. Although any nkp, like many of my friends, would tell you my blades are expensive and a waste of money.

Buck 192 for a fixed blade
Kershaw Skyline for a folder

There are lots of great knives out there, but these two handle any cutting job I use a knife for and are (IMO), high value knives.

Kabar Dozier folders for about $20.
Spyderco Delica for about $50.
Spyderco Gayle Bradley for about $130.
Spyderco Para Military for about $100.

High value is one of the things I look for in all of my purchases, as well as what I carry in my shop. You can have high value in every price range, but I find that the bell curve for quantity of good bang-for-buck models seems to float right around the $30-150 range, with examples existing both higher and lower on that curve but in proportionally smaller numbers.

$60 mini-grip gives pretty darn good value considering it's made in the USA, very capable blade steel and the always fun/functional axis lock.

I just watched your two videos with your custom AD-10's...beautiful knives. Love that mirror-polished edge with the 6000 grit and EdgePro. The blade-design is great. And...they really cut.

if you had one, youd understand why he made that statement.

one is production, the other custom built by the man who designed the production.

if your sole liking of the cold steel version is it can cut, then by default, you have to agree the AD 10 is far better at cutting, since it is.

if you like the rugged construction, youd agree the AD 10 makes it look like a kids play knife.

if you love the tri ad lock, as you should, then youd love it on the AD 10, since andrew is the man who invented it and it is executed much better on the custom.

So the AD-10 and CS American Lawman are the same huh?

I wouldn't waste your time, the dude just types and never thinks...

I am not asking for a specific price range, just want to know what folks consider to be high value knives. I DO think the AD-10 and American Lawman are on the same planet. I am not talking about style, uniqueness or presige, I am focused on function and general quality. Obviously the Demko custom is something special and a superior knife, but is it 15 times better than an American Lawman?

For example, a good quality 3x9 Leupold rifle scope might cost $400, and that $400 scope is way better than an $80 Tasco or Bushnell. However, the $400 Leupold doesn't measure up to a $2000+ Leica, Swarovski, Zeiss, etc. Even though it isn't the absolute best scope out there, the Leupold still represents the highest value in the rifle scope spectrum, the optimization between quality and price.

It looks like BladeChick777 sees what I am after

Dax

i own both, and id say yes, its easily 15 times better. maybe 20 times.

I would contact Andrew on prices, that's the best way. :)

All I can say is they aren't cheap.
