I quite like the Svord.
But a Svord is a whopping five bucks more for the three inch version!
Then you have to add shipping on top of that.
For the price of a Svord, you can get two Higos ... shipped from Japan.
As for what is the better way of making a knife, the Higo has worked for a 100 yrs +
(As mentioned, I like the Svord as well)
BTW; Thanks for the tip FortyTwo, I did this in about 2 minutes and really improved the Higo. What I like doing to keep the edge from hitting the inside of the handle is to use some smooth-jawed pliers to bend the frame closed so it pinches the grind shoulder at the tip like a straight razor. The handle kind of flares open from the factory anyhow, so pinching it flatter gives a more uniform look. You often need to give the pivot a couple of light raps with a hammer to tighten it up after bending since it relieves a bit of tension on the rivet.
Cut myself in exactLy the same spot awhile ago. Fixed blade though.Me and my Higo... A love/hate relationship..

Okay, thats a good argument for a sheath. Some of them have pretty loose actions and could possibly open in the pocket
It would be boring, if we all liked to buy the same knives, so thats okay.Sure, I could use a Higo, but I can afford to buy decent quality things these days. Since I no longer have to get by with the least expensive knife that will do the job, I choose not to. No Higos for me, but I am glad you enjoy yours.
At least you cut yourself with the slightly more expensive brass handle versionMe and my Higo... A love/hate relationship..

Yes, the Svord is no doubt safer to use. It's about a longer tang to engage. The higos are just small where the svord is large enough for a full palm engagement. Much safer to me and worth the extra few bucks.
I havent put it to a 'hard use' test and have no interest in doing so but Id assume the Svord's longer 'lever' would make it safer in use than the small 'tab' of the Higonokami.
What is your impression of the Mercator - pics?I personally love the Higo No Kami. I like the sleek all metal handles, carbon steel blade that'll gain a patina, and simplicity of the design. I also have a brass handle one on the way. Lately I've been getting into small metal handle fritction folders, I have a Higo, a Mercator and another Higo and Svord on the way. They make nice companions to other larger locking folders.
Okay, thats a good argument for a sheath.
As others have mentioned and as I touched upon in the OP, have you tried tapping the pivot pin?
Who makes this one? Here it is. It makes me drool, it's just overall perfect in many ways...
Now, I am the enabler... Not my picture. I tell ya, I'm fighting the urge, really hard...

Katsu.Who makes this one?
While doing the enabler, why didn't you add that persian blade thingy ? Katsu makes very nice knives, no doubt.
Pictures, man!Okay, I surrendered to the Higo movement, but I compromised and didn't get a basic one. I got the Katsu titanium framelock with ball bearing pivot and carbon fiber inlays.
Not too shabby.
Ive been eyeing the one with the green 'bamboo' handle.
I will see what I can do when I get it. I liked the looks of almost all of the Higo style knives from that brand, so I would not be surprised if I wound up with more of them. I especially liked the wooden handled models. This one just sounded kind of fun, and pushed my "let's do something crazy" button at the right time
