Hiked to the top of Enchanted Rock

Howdy Hawkeye....E-Rock is one of my favorite places! did you crawl into the liitle cave like spots on the top?? Fun place to go, even more fun on a week day when no one is there....glad ya had some fun times!

BTW, there are some awesome trails around the dome too....lot's of slots to play and climb in an out off....

Thanks for sharing! That was one of our favorite bouldering and hiking areas when we were stationed at Fort Hood. We actually spent more time on the smaller hills around the big granite for backpacking and rock climbing. It's really a great place to go...even in the main rock is packed with people (usually is), the surrounding areas are excellent areas to climb around.

Trails go all the way around and the backside has a nice trail that you can climb down. My wife took up rock climbing during my first deployment to Iraq and she loved bouldering around Enchanted Rock. It's good to note that they almost always have a fire ban, so bring a stove! The small creek that runs through the area is clear and excellent for water filtering and keeping cool in the 100+degree summer hikes.

Some pictures from the past to add to a great post:D

Hawkeye,

My wife, Robin, and I hiked to the top back in October. I love that place! It's one of my favorite places to hike! We came down on the side between the two "peaks" onto the Echo Canyon Trail and came back that way. I think we'll go to the top that way next time...we like the view!

Really cool pictures, the terrain looks like an area I would love to explore with a camera! I have the same compass, how do you like yours? Those little Breeden knives are pretty awesome, I need to order a couple.

Thanks Mistwalker. I was thinking about your post and pic the whole time I was there.Wondering what you would take a picture of.I am sure that you would love it there.I like my compass a lot.I don't get to get out a play with it as much as I would like but I like all the stuff it has to offer.Works a lot better than my cheaper ones.Bryans knives are great.

Hawkeye,

Robin and I will be back in the area in January. If the weather permits, we plan on hiking to the top again.
