Hikin' pictures of Illinois

That frozen icefall reminds me that it is ICE CLIMBING SEASON and that I should be bumping my knucles outdoors instead of typing here! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahgggg!!!
Thanks for sharing those pictures,

Actually, just not what I'd expect from Northern Illinois.
That's exactly why it's worthy of notice, because of the novelty of location. If those bluffs at Starved Rock were anywhere else, they wouldn't have become a State Park. Heck, my back yard in Arkansas had a bigger canyon and waterfall than most of those at Starved Rock, and no one ever considered making ~that~ into a park. :D

Still, Starved Rock is considered a real treasure by people who live in that area. It really is a fantastic place to escape to on a winter weekday.

There are some great cliffs and rock formations there at Garden Of The Gods.
I spent a lot of time growing up in Southern Illinois, and many of the formations down there dwarf the Starved Rock 'canyons'. Old Stone Face, Garden of the Gods, Bell Smith Springs, and plenty of places that don't have names.
