• Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! I hope that you all have something to be grateful for this year and for many years to come
  • America has reached 250 years, and I am grateful to be here, in the best country in the world. Thank every one of you who helps make this country a better place, those who have gone before and risked it all, and those who've paid the ultimate price to make the United States what we are today.

Happy Birthday America! Let Freedom Ring for all time!

Hiking Combo's ?

Hmm, my RC-4 is my main blade but I sometimes sub it out for another 4" prybar or the buck 119.

My PSK/first aid kit has a SAK camper in it along with a scalpel. My photobag as a SAK solider tucked in one of the strap pockets and a leatherman juice in the side pocket. When on extended trip I either bring a hatchet or sub that with a folding saw.

Here is one combo I often carry. I am selling this combo to fix up a new one. The knife is a 510 and the 5 inch Opinel saw.

Sog powerlock, Gerber Command II, Ontario sp-8(bought pre lawsuit) Knives of Alaska cub bear.

My usual Combo for around here is my Manix, and a Wave tool with a Salt as a back up.

I sometimes throw in a fiskars hatchet or a kAbar on linger trips.

I always have on me a Benchmade AFCK, a Buck 271, a Vic Swiss Spirit. When I hike, there is a Mora permanently sheathed in my shoulder bag and since I got it, I've taken along my RC-3. That may change soon, though, thanks to you, Mr. Pitdog , as I now have a SR Hairy Carry on order.

Actually, Mr Dog, I'm really looking forward to the SRHC. I have a picture on my desktop and ogle it every chance I get. :D. Thanks for the heads up.

I can't wait to see your pics Doc, I'm sure it will be a great little blade !!!:D:thumbup:

For day hikes I have a Buck Diamondback 3" fixed blade, a Gerber folder, and a Leatherman Micra multi-tool.

I keep the Diamondback in the Camelbak Ambush gear pocket because I like to keep a low profile with the fixed blade and the Camelbak Ambush pockets are too small for any larger fix blade to fit.

The Gerber folder has a partial serrated edge and I keep it on the Camelbak shoulder strap for easy access and because I hate carrying things in my pants pockets.

The Leatherman Micra in my mini-PSK I use for day hikes.

I've never really needed any of them, but I like knowing that I have them. If for some reason I have to spend an unplanned night in the field, I think I will have enough to get me through.

I always carry a VIC Rucksack in a Zipploc bag along with some other items (some cordage, tape, BIC ligther, fire starting tablest, Kleenex and alike) in my pack but it doesn't see any use.

When I go climbing I carry something on my harness that I can open with just one had and quick. Usually an Spyderco Rescue (maybe a Delica or Endura if I plan on cutting some more stuff than just rope and webbing). If I am carrying my pack, the Zipploc bag comes along as well.

When I go hiking (no climbing involved) I carry my Zipploc bag in the pack a 4" FB on my person (F1 or Aurora) and if I plan on cutting wood for fire making, a saw. I guess that in the event of a big screw up I am well equipped even without the saw.

I have a brand new BRKT Canadian Camp that still haven't seen any use and a RAT-7 that when carried, goes in the pack (it draws a lot of attention just as it is now... but how would you like it with blue canvas micarta handles and a leather sheat? :D :D can't say any more now... it would ruin the surprise!). When the Canadian Camp gets used I am not sure if it will go in the pack or on my belt.

I pack these (Gerber Sportaxe 14", Ontario RAT-7 & Gerber multitool) if it's going to be an overnighter :D

If it's just a day hike I like these ( Ontario TAK & Leatherman Kick)

Along w/ those items I've always got my Vic. SAK Soldier & Buck 889 SBMF;)

right now most commonly its my mora #1 on my belt or in my bag and my penknife in my pocket.

A Bark River TUSK and SAK. What can I say I'm a simpleton and believe less is more.

I usually bring a Gamewarden and either a Ratmandu or ASH-1. And of course my Farmer and Silky.

Sounds like a good set up...I have to get one of those silky's..I just broke a saw this winter and havnt replaced it yet. Gene

Uh oh! You may get banned admitting that:eek:

For outdoors, I'll always have a SAK on me...usually a Alox Farmer or Outrider.

I'll always have a locking folder; it's been my RSK-1 for the majority of the hiking trips.

I've been doing more "bushcraft" lately, so I almost always have a fixed blade on me, and it's been either a Skookum Bush Tool or my Koster Bushcraft.

I carry a SAK huntsman and a mora 521 (basically a 510 with slightly longer blade and a finger guard). I think I might replace the 521 with a 510 though, since i like the shorter blade and am realizing I probably don't need a guard as much as I thought.

just got a silky pocket boy though, and that'll be coming on backpacking trips now.

I like to travel light :)

I got the Silky Super Accel, what an amazing amount of cutting power you get for just 9 oz. The one I have came with the large teeth but now I'm thinking about ordering a second blade with medium or fine teeth, both for use on different materials as well as having as a backup.
