Himalayan imports are customs and need their own for sale section

Himalayan Imports by many standards are really custom knives. They are a main section of the forum yet unlike Buck they don’t have a place for people to sell their items. I know there are a lot of people selling them often to buy more.
People have to put them in the production section where they really don’t belong as each one is hand made and no two are a like. These are hard to call production if you know the story about how they are made.

HI does have a cantina section often non knife topics are posted there by the (sharks) HI fans. That would be a great place to post them for sale as it is often if not always that it is another shark that buys them. All the HI fans go to the cantina on a regular basis and that would provide the best opportunity for the sellers and buyers alike.

So what is the chance of that happening? If needed we can get a list of supporting member signatures to endorse the idea.

If they're "custom" knives, why are they being sold in the "For Sale: Production Knives" sub-forum ?

If they're "custom" knives, why not sell them in the "For Sale: Custom Knives" sub-forum ?

I would think restricting HI for sale threads to the Cantina area would decrease visibility of the for sale threads.


I wasn't aware that they're considered custom knives. I have five HI blades and would be very interested in seeing some information. Can you provide me information or point me to threads that explains the reasoning. Shoot me a PM or e-mail, I don't want what I'm asking to drift the intent of your thread.
 
I would support anything to make sales easier that BF managment could accept.

I don't think if the HI Cantina would be a good for sale forum. It would be for those that spend time there, but there would be many BF members that might be interested in purchasing a Khukri that would not think to look there.

Of course, selling would have to still be restricted to Gold or higher members.
 
I don't think the Cantina would be the appropriate place for sales, but I do think Busse should have their own sub category for sales. HI would be fine in Production knives if it wasn't for the Busse turnover. IMHO
 
Who said HI belongs in Production Knives and not Custom? Did any moderator say that or have people just been choosing to post there?

How much traffic is there in resale of HI knives? If a forum doesn't have new posts daily it dies.
 
It's hard to say how much traffic there may be Cougar. Folks might be more interested in buying, selling and trading if there were a special area for HI since they would know their stuff would go to a more highly targeted audience. Folks already active and knowlegable of HI quality would be more likely to offer bids or trades.

I myself rarely go to either sale area since my interest is very focused for example...I might actively check an HI specific forum on a regular basis.

My personal opinion is that they are customs...they frequently are produced by specific request of a user or result in special runs by request of several users. As a mod and in considering that since they usually do standard runs, I suggested production. If I was mistaken...let's set it straight.
 
This is one of the rare situations where I think it's actually true that starting a forum first could bring out the posts. Usually that's a delusion, but HI collectors are often focused very much on HI and I think there are people who are not now participating in the Exchange because there aren't any HI knives there who would participate in a special HI Exchange forum.

The test Spark used to see if a Buck forum would be viable was to see if 40 Gold Members and above (people who could participate -- that includes moderators but not Basic Members or registered users) would sign on and say they would participate. That worked out well, Buck Knives For Sale is thriving.
 
P.S. That could also enable us to evade the question of whether HI is production or custom, which is a tough call. :)
 
First let me thank everyone (mods) for thinking about this issue, I am trying not to be a pain in a$$ ...well maybe just a little

Please consider that custom is subjective but if you take a look for example at their website and see how these are made it starts to clear up the issue. These blades are hand forged the old way with fire and anvil. Each knife is hand made and even if you have the same style side by side there are differences. That’s what happens with crude hand made methods...no machines are used.

Many custom makers developed a certain style of knife and make them over and over yet they are custom. HI has specific makers that sign every blade they make just like the custom people do.

Many HI blades are seen once and that’s it I have several items that in 4 years I have never seen another one and production is not like that and if they do something special they call it “custom”

There is a high traffic in HI forums more than many of the manufactures including long time names.

I know from watching other people trying to get their items seen and the relentless bumps they have to do to get that few seconds of page 1 or 2 is tough, at the same time buyers miss a lot of good deals. It also affects new people that if they see the blades they may get interested and then hooked.
Remember also when you talk about HI its not just Khukuris they make a very wide range from karambits kardas knives swords bolos etc..

I'll add my hat to the ring! I think that HI products are customs (always wondered why they got posted on the production exchange forum). I also think that a specific HI sale forum would be appropriate.

Us HI supports are pretty focused on what we want. Sifting through the exchange forum for an HI product isn't the easiest... it is really easy to miss a sale. Having a localized forum for HI products would make such sales easier for both the seller and buyer. I think it would also encourage more individuals to participate too.

Just my opinion. We HI cantinastas are pretty fanatical. I think a separate sale forum would be a success :D

I would participate in a HI buy-sell-trade forum.

HI only, I'd support...mixed to anything remotely Khukuri-like and it would be a pain to mod and say what belongs and what doesn't. Rules would have to established...what's allowed and what's not...are they allowed to advertise the sale in the other forums...are they allowed to advertise an item for sale on another forum or ebay...who is allowed and who is not...etc...

I don't want to be called on constantly to make the calls on my own.

Also to be considered is what Yangdu says...such second-hand sales would effectively compete with her sales. Who's to say that I don't shark an item one day and offer it for a healthy profit the next?

Gotta all be thought through.
 
I think they should sell a little higher than her, so to give her the edge on price outside of being from her is as close to new as you can get. Though the chance of two of the same item selling would be rare since they are so unique.

and as far as selling HI items thats happening anyways this is a bennifit the forum would be giving their members the buyers and sellers

I don't care if its HI only or others though I would prefer a HI only and think they deserve it, after all there really is nothing else like them.

If this happens, it will be a sub forum in the for sale area, just as the Buck for sale forum is.

This makes it easier for us to moderate, and keep under control. We can't have For Sale forums scattered all over the place simply because we cannot effectively manage them. The Buck FS sub forum is very clean, and I personally haven't had to do any moderating there, and would expect the same from a HI sub forum.
