I didn't do an extensive search... So this is probably been asked...

Slicer vs Bowie... The good and bad of each blade shape and mostly how thin are the tips of each of these? And I'm most concerned with that that inch...

I do 't care for the thickness of the spanto.. So I'm trying to determine which knife to get without having to buy both and then sell one.

Also are both slicer and Bowie tips tapered from the same point on the spine?

All help appreciated, especially comparison pics of spine down on both knives if anyone has both.

3.5XM is what I'm after, thanks everyone,

The Bowie and Slicer are both thick to the end. You can see comparison pics of the Slicer and the Spanto and you can see that the slicer maintains its thickness pretty much to the tip. Same with the Bowie. Of the 2 I like the Bowie just because I really like the super pointy tip and the upward curve of the blade

I'm in the opposite camp - I can (barely) tolerate a fixed blade Bowie; but I dislike that blade type in folders, immensely. I'd put the spear and slicer first, with the wharnie and spanto being a couple levels down in desirability.

I like the Bowie because the tip can get into areas to do work that a wider tip cannot.

I also like the way it looks better, but the tip being more "tippy" is a good thing. :)

I absolutely LOVE my 3.5 Bowie, it is the perfect EDC profile for my uses (pretty general type). I love the way it supports my thumb on the back of the spine, and the tip it actually quite stout - I have no worries about it's durability. Sneeks into those tough blister packages precisely and confidently. Gratuitous pics...

Thanks guys... I think Bowie it is! That spine over tip looks pretty thick all the way to the end...

cheers!

dont mean to hijack the thread, but between xm-18 bowie and xm-24 bowie, which one is a better choice? besides price/size/weight difference, what else?

I would truly LOVE a 24 Bowie, I miss my 24 Spanto and can only imagine how much more I would have loved a 24 Bowie. I hear they flip outstanding too (as does my 3.5 Bowie).

The XM-24's are awesome knives but are definitely big. If it is going to be something you are going to EDC I think the 18 is a better call. If size and weight are not a factor for you, then heck yeah go with the 24!

O/T but does any one have a 24 in a Skinner profile? Not that I can afford one, but that's like my dream knife right now!

Top profile of the blade?

N2K, that pic really tells the story for me about tip comparison, thanks!

XM24 I decided would be too big. I've had a great 3.5, and a not so great 3.5... wish I never sold the great one. A spanto and regrind... the regrind was cool, I regret selling that one ;]

I hope to have a bowie 3.5 in hand soon! Good people in here...

And we might have to turn this into a Hinderere bowie love photo thread soon ;D

Eric, that's the bowie? Can't see the curve near scales from that pic.. weird, and thanks again.

That's the xm24 skinner hotrod wanted to see. Didn't mean to highjack the thread on you.
