Hinderer or Harsey?

Pick whichever you like better. Id personally go with different as suggested above but the XM-18 is a great knife too. But can't go wrong with either.

I'd also say Spartan. They are at the top of my "Want to try Fixed Blades" but I honestly don't used fixed blades much outside of the kitchen, and my Sprig/Southfork have that covered. Spartan makes some real beautiful knives, and I've heard their customer service is top notch (anecdotal). And like craytab said, it seems like I've been seeing ~4-5 Hinderers for sale on the exchange about everyday for the last week or so. I just find Spartans more appealing aesthetically I guess.

Really there's nothing not to like about an Hinderer. Exceptional customer service and a great solid knife.

Better resale value on the XM-18 if this isn't going to be a long term keeper. I just bought a Spartan Harsey because I like Bill's designs. I did this knowing that they are overpriced.

A regular Spartan Harsey folder is $460 but it has titanium on both sides. Hinderer XM-18 is $425 but it has G-10 on the presentation side.

Hinderer XM-24 ($595) not XM-18 is the size of the Spartan Harsey.

I almost got a Harsey instead of my Large Inkosi. Almost got one a second time.

The first Harsey I handled at my local store had such horrible lockstick so bad you could barely unlock it without a screwdriver. The second Harsey I handled in the store had exceedingly early lockup to the point of being dangerous. I'm sure it would have wors in fine but who wants to use an unsafe knife everyday until the lockup settles into a safe position. Living in Canada sending knives in, particularly folders means sometimes that knife may not be coming back.

The two times I was there I also handled an example ofnthe Metis folder each time. The first example was flawless but the second had a lockbar overtravel stop that was either coming loose and rattled, or was too tight and thus put pressure on the lockhar and made opening the knife difficult. There might have been a sweet spot that could he locktited and never touched again to remedy this, I am not sure.

This is no way an attack on Spartan blades who I love. Their knives are so beautifulnI just thought it was abit of a shame that so many of their folders I habdled had issues. The fixed blade I own from them is superlative as are all the examples I handled at the local knife store.

I have a Harsey folder and am not real happy with the purchase. Mine has a few minor annoyances. The thumb studs rotate so they make a rattling sound when in motion. The Harsey has a touch of lock stick. I realize that it's not a flipper but there is no detent to speak of. A slight shake and the blade deploys. Finally, it arrived extremely dull. In all honesty, I wish I would have purchased one of their fixed blades instead.

I am more attracted to Spartan fixed blades than its folders. Never tried a spartan folder but just by looking I choose Hinderer.

So it seems many people are having issues with their folders.

I missed out on the Akribis which was their knife I most wanted to try. They have a new sexy looking folder out called the Kranos.

Damn I really wanted to try an Akribis.
