Hinderer xm-18...HELP

Forget about the money, it was well spent. What will you carry for the rest of your life and pass down to your kids that's cooler than an XM-18? Nothing much I can think of.

They are somewhat hard to come by, and I don't see Rick producing any more than he does per year. He seems to be expanding his line with new pens and zipper pulls, so that may limit production even more.

That price you paid seems a little high, but if you want it and can afford it then don't look back. Use the crap out of it and enjoy it. Rick makes nice knives.

If you keep it and enjoy it for 20 years then it only cost you around $32/year. I spend more than that on soda in a month.

$400, on the secondary market? Not happening. Even dealers have them for $650-$750. If I could get an XM-18 for $400 (and trust me, I've been looking), I would have quite a few.

Some dealers actually do sell them for original price. :) of course there are some that charge 700 also.

1- Good genes
2- Manners
Both equal more than 10 XM-18s. How you like me now? :D

Im sorry but 650 for a hinderer xm18 is pretty ridiculous. You can get a custom folder for that price that will be better in every aspect and built to your exact specifications. Hinderers are worth every penny of the retail cost.

I meant tangibly "carry" like in your pocket or something like that, but you're right your examples, are well....exemplary. And you know I like you RevDevil, your avatar is too scary not to be your pal, you might attack me! :D

Like it or not, it does command a high price in the secondary market. I picked one up at only slightly less than what the OP paid and I don't feel cheated. I paid the going price these days and I'd make up most of that if I decide to sell it. I'm not happy to pay the premium, but that's the market.

I think nobody in France does know what an hinderer is in reality.

I think it's also because the style of knives that's popular amongst french knifenuts is diametrically opposed to the kind that Hinderer and co provide. His kind of overbuilt folder is often considered as "probably great but so ugly" on French forums. Indeed, tastes differ between continents.

I got one from a dealer for $395 after shipping and one at a show from Rick himself for $385. Put your name on a list and you will get one eventually!

If its what you want in a knife then it is worth it. You can always flip it for minimal if any loss.

No big, you can always get what you paid for it. I've bought and sold five and haven't lost on one yet.

you did good my man, you will not be sorry :)
It's a nice knife. Never worth that much money, but on the other hand, you only live once, try out what you like and live happy!
check out my sebenza vs xm-18 videos on my youtube channel, while you're waiting for your present

I put my name on the list at my fav dealer. I didn't even ask what the price was. They have fair prices on everything else and I figure they will treat me well on an XM-18. They have my business for anything they have in stock because I could ask for no better service. In fact, I would feel wrong asking a company for the level of service I have received! They are just that awesome.

For rick's direct prices, they are an amazing knife for the money. It's like a sebenza made for skinning tanks. I wouldn't pay the secondary market prices for one. While I may think you paid too much, you certainly won't be disappointed in the knife.

The question you have to ask yourself, as I try to do with any knife I buy.. Would I pay this much if nobody on the forums was talking about this knife?

What I don't understand is why Rick can't satisfy demand the way someone like Chris Reeve does. From what I understand regular production XM-18s don't have hand ground blades. Why can't he make enough knives or doesn't he want to?

I totally agree. C'mon. I've given up even looking for one. Eventually he will figure it out.
