Hinderer xm-18...HELP

For rick's direct prices, they are an amazing knife for the money. It's like a sebenza made for skinning tanks. I wouldn't pay the secondary market prices for one. While I may think you paid too much, you certainly won't be disappointed in the knife.

You can't get them from him. Unless you go to a show and win a lottery. Unless you are a cop. That's what I have understood.

I get a kick out of these discussions - and they come up often. One guy posts about how much he paid for item x, and another guy invariably responds with how he paid "too much".

And while it may or may not be true in certain individual cases where an item can be easily found at a certain price point, I don't think that's the case here.

People get wound up about these knives because there are basically two levels of prices that people pay.

The first level is what the maker charges. That is the one people are stuck on. They say you paid too much if you go over that amount.
But here's the rub: very few people can actually buy the knife at any price. So when one does come up on the open market, the price skyrockets. Why? Because they are great knives and everybody wants one.

Right, wrong or indifferent, that's the way it is. Great quality, low numbers and high demand. The math is pretty easy.

I've always heard that something - anything - is only worth what someone is willing to pay. In the case of these knives that seems to be right around the mid $600' s or so. Sometimes a lot more.

For those of you that balk at that price it's a simple matter to just not buy one. For those that have bought one (and there are many) why worry about what someone else thinks? It's your money not theirs. Just enjoy your knife, they are awesome.

I'm a capitalist. Wouldn't bother me if the maker charged more. Charge what demand allows. I don't know why it's better that person X gets it at manufactures cost then sells it right away for more, as opposed to maker gets the money and is rewarded for producing a knife everyone loves.

All I really care about is that I own a 3.5" XM-18 flipper - nuff said! :D

The are great knives. I have had about a dozen over the last year or two. I had all 3 sizes....3" xm-18, 3.5" xm-18. 4" xm-24. All were very well made. I like big folders, but the 24 was too big for me. Especially living close to the city, should i ever live where our cabin is, that would be a better place for it. But at $1000, it was impossible to use as any use would drop the value. I really really like the 3", its everything Hinderer is about in a nice small package. Just a tad too small for me, but I would buy another. The 3.5" is my all time favorite XM-18 and I have had several. The prices for the 3" and 3'5" are about the same, so if I had the funds to buy ONE, it would be the 3.5" as its bigger and more useful. I recently picked up a really nice user 3.5" xm-18 ( owner scratch the pivot screw changing scale ). That allowed me to sell my safe queen XM. So now I am down to ONE.......Thats all I will ever need. !!!
