Hip replacement time

Don't forget to order a cane or two from Mendowood . Galvanized steel over hardwood core with heavy layer of epoxy. Feels like it could take on a Louisville Slugger and come out on top. Got me a 33" long 40 oz. ( 2&1/2 pounds ).

Order now and have it when you go into the hospital. Works on Big Nurse types ( remember "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest"? ), and you don't have the residual effects lingering in the air like pepper spray.

Hey, those are really nice canes. I was thinking about taking my newly acquired Bilton just in case I get a "Nurse Diesel". However, my wife saw the little khuk and for some reason assumed I got the "little cute one" for her. How could I tell her no?

a collegue of mine teaches sports at a grammar school and had his second hip-joint replaced with ceramic or titan. He teaches again and does 5000m-runs in 21 minutes. They do good work today. Best wishes, get well soon.
Andreas

Thanks, Andreas. Good to hear that you friend is doing so well. I can't remember the last time I walked 5000m much less ran that far.:D

Frank the Avascular Necrosis is one of the things it's very possible I could come up with due to the Stills Disease.
The key word to the long name of Stills is "Systemic" in that it can affect the soft tissues of my body as well as the joints.Gettin' old ain't a problem, but being old at an early age is a Real Bitch!!!!
I'm 63 now but have been dealing with this crap since '04, almost 10 years!!!!:grumpy:
I was mis-dagnosed in late '84 with Beurger's Disease and now know it was probably the SD that's been eating away at my joints since then with no medication as I have no Beurger's antibodies.
The injections of methotrexate once a week still kick my arse a lot.

Oh!!!!! Ben, it's alright to be hippy as long as it ain't a broadening experience.;) :p

Holy Toledo. If it ain't one damned thing it's another.

Ben, you're right. Better to grin and bear it than cry and complain. I think the mental attitude is about 90% of the cure.

Frank and Yvsa, I am really sorry to hear that you guys have gone through so much. Makes me feel so much better to have great, knowledgeable support. Yes, Frank, the pain is pretty much continual and it's starting to affect my mood. I am usually very upbeat and positive, but I've been finding it harder to be upbeat...so, here we go. Thanks again.

You're right Uncle Bill, one thing or another. Tell you what though, I didn't see this one coming. I thought is was a pulled muscle or some such thing. Oops! Wrong. Positive attitude is everything, I believe that. And, I'll be ready for the daily specials with maybe a cold refreshment handy...(down the road of recuperation). :D

Ben

BEN,I wish u luck.My hip was done 6/6/01 and I feel great.:)yea it's a big pain in the butt.U/r quality of life is important And you'll be back too u/r old self again. ;)WE got u/r back. :DYvsa I hear u man..........:D

Frank, quality of life is everything. I'm sure I'll be up and around, going strong...just have to sit still long enough after the surgery. Thanks again.

Ben

Ben you have that right as well. It's most important to do just as the doc tells you!!!!
But you have that right as well too.
Sometimes it's harder 'en hell to do though and especially this time of the year.
The best time for serious surgery recovery is in the late winter when nothing much else can be done anyway, that it unless you're like that damned Saintly Duck and live where it's nice year around!!!! :p ;)

Yvsa, you're are so right. And if I lived where the Duck does, I would have them put a cot for me out on the beach...just for the view, of course. :D

Ben

Keep your chin up and don't be afraid to let the Mrs. pamper you for a little bit. Think of it as advance payment for all the honey-dos you'll have waiting for you when you're up and about again. And get yourself a spiffy cane.

Frank

 And, Just, what view would that be Ben? :p ;)

Pappy and Mad Mike, thanks for the words of encouragement. Frank, I will let her pamper me; I'm looking at canes; and she already has a list ready to go for when the doc says I can do my Bob Vila impersonation again. :D

Yvsa, what view would I be looking at? The ocean? :D :D My luck and a bunch of pesky bikinis would keep getting in the way. ;)

When I had my surgery, the Doctor sat me down and explained in 2 minutes exactly what cutting/repairing he was going to do, and then spent about FIFTEEN minutes explaining how unlikely it was that the anesthesia would kill me:eek: .

I then explained to him my theory that pain was NOT therapeutic, and if he had any reservations about sufficient post-operative pain meds, NOW was the time to tell me. We reached an accord.:)

The worst time was post op, at home, in the country and alone...the after-effects of the anesthesia were astounding. I don't think I've ever felt so lousy over-all...without some specific reason...like an injury or a truck hitting me.

You will be fine as soon as the surgery drugs wear off, and your own system can start reasserting itself. Pick a date about two weeks into recovery to have a special treat day or meal, with all your rare and favorite foods/deserts/drinks. Somehow, having that to look forward to makes your system recuperate in anticipation.

Hang in.
