History of the Blade Forum's Traditional Forum's Annual knife, 2006-2019

This is really cool, I always remember looking up the forum knives and coming upon that photo :) One of my favourites with all the artwork and different knives dedicated to our forum.

My 2014 that I just let go, beautiful knife with great walk and talk.

i had just missed it!if i sat in the clinic until 5ish id have been able to buy it up :( it was a terrific price!

I love this thread, I need the history lesson and am eager to read about the knives. Just picked up a 2009 barlow and have a 2015 on order. The 2014 is on my list of gotta have it knives : )

Very useful idea Ted, thanks for putting the effort in. Myself, I don't think it needs to be stickied as this is the type of thread that will naturally get refreshed anyway.

Here's the 13 Congress Jack

The 11 Teardrop showing the bottle-opener/screwdriver and a bit of longpull. Excellent shield and pin work on this edition.

My own favourite, the 14. Mine has very much the kind of stag I like, and another interesting shield a Hound's tooth

I love my 2014 Forum Knife, but I really wished I'd been able to grab the Congress Jack. Being out of work at the time, and not fond of the scales, I held off hoping it would be released as a regular production model. Kicking myself now. Always hoped GEC would release it with jigged bone covers. Oh well.

The Bullet End Jack with Caplifter is probably the nicest version that GEC made. Perfect mesh with that jigged bone & shield combo in my opinion.

I'm sure that no one is wanting a repeat knife right away, but if we did repeat a pattern, I would certainly be okay with repeating the 2011 (at some point). I wasn't around for that one, but it sure is a looker.

And of course, I am still hoping for a whaler for next year

Congress Jack and the Barlow are my two favorites with the Wharncliffe Trapped and Medium Stockman coming in second...:)

What a great informative thread this is going to be! It's really neat to see the variety of designs the group has decided on over the years.

I wouldn't mind picking up a 2013 again, myself.

There are a LOT of links for discussions and polls so it will be a lot of work to organize. Here are a few to help you get started.

I worked with Charlie (waynorth) and Eric (ea42) on the 2010 knife. Here are some of my notes from that run:

131 knives sold.

Price:
  • US - $87.00 shipped
  • International - $78.00 + actual shipping

Thanks Mike, I figure when my wife goes in for back surgery in October I'll have something to do while waiting in the waiting room and if I'm lucky they'll have a computer with a keyboard and mouse to make going through all the threads and organizing it into a linear timeline. The threads you provided are what I'm looking for so I can do a chronological piece on each year with the poll results leading up to the resulting knife.

The 07 Canittler is my least carried knife and I think because of the scale material it was a contributing factor for most members not carrying it. Oh and on the flip side I think the 09 Barlow was one of the most carried at least by me. It just felt great in my hand, it was one of the best looking and most unusual historied(is that a word?) Knives we've done.

It has been an honor to watch and participate in the creation of not one but two forum knives! These two are two of my most valued knives. One forum knife was cool, but being able to add another and actually start a forum knife collection is just amazing!
