I went away to college and returned one holiday to find the oil can empty and gone and the stone my dad had in his dresser drawer.Years later, I couldn't find it.DM

That's bad. I think Buck sells nether the stone nor the oil anymore. But is seems that stone and oil made their job.

I think I never use the oil. It has its place side by side with the Buck sharpening tools in the display cabinet.

Reading some of the instruction sheets in these boxes is interesting. In the stone box, that one says never to use a coarse stone when sharpening.

I am easily entertained...:rolleyes:
 
Haebbie,Thats just the way it was growing up in my family.
Pack,Mine reads similar."Never use a coarse stone or emery wheel." I believe the thinking
was those would remove too much metal or heat it up destroying the temper.DM
