hitachi white steel

I didn't see the $10/lb to you. :eek: That would probably be almost double that to Canada... Can't afford that.
 
Guys, we should sit tight and wait until Mike gets some answers from Hitachi.

Shipping by flat rate box will make the postage a small factor. Ignore my earlier comments, as they were about longer bars/sheets. Flat rate postage will run $15 for about 80 pounds within the USA, and about $25 for 30 pounds to Canada.
 
alright i talked to the rep and he talked to every one he could and he cant do a mixed order so its going to have to be all white or all blue i talked to him about the sheets and he stated that "Technical Point:

1) We do supply our regular stainless and alloy tool steel grades as Hot rolled wide sheet. However, there is one peculiarity for this hot rolling method; occasionally a mirror finished cannot be achieved. This caused by a more round grain shape and layering of the of the grain microstructure.

* If a mat finished is desired this method will be OK

* However, IF mirror finished is required for each knife, then narrow hot rolled flat bar should be sued. Please confirm if you use a mat or need mirror finish.

2) Narrow hot rolled flat bar is 10 to 13 Foot Random Length."

so if you still want the sheets that is fine but if you want a mirror finish then the bar method is best
 
Good to know.

For us forgers, it probably won't matter. For most grinders, it may or may not matter. I rarely mirror finish a kitchen knife.

Sheet or bar , White would be my first choice.

Any word on approx. pricing?

Actually, having bought steel from Don Hanson, it's about $25 for 20lbs to Canada.. For any Canadians out there, if you're going to order 25lbs, change it to 20lb because I believe the next flat rate is up in the $40-45 range...
 
Thanks, the PO has made some changes.

I just re-checked the rates.
A large flat rate box to Canada will take 24" bars, and can only weigh 20 pounds. It is $39.95.
A medium flat rate box would take 15" bars, and costs $32.95. It can weight 20 pounds,too.

2" x 24" x 3/16" bars will weigh right at 2.5 pounds a bar. 15" bars would weigh 1.6 pounds.
 
Mike, Since we can't get the Super Blue, I'm still interested in the White. Either 20 or 25 lbs, whichever is more cost efficient with regards to shipping.

Mike, I think everyone is anxiously awaiting even an approximate price before they commit to an order. I know that's a Catch-22... :)
