Here is the real thing...

I think that these pictures speak for themselves (and this is after quite a bit of use - I just gave it a rub with some metal polish for its photo shoot)....

Glad you are enjoying your blade so much... I think i am going to purchase like any day now... glad i could be of help... so... question about that hiro... is that the 13" blade that you bought? or the new 11"? i really like the blade but am a little concerned it is not long enough... i have a 9" blade at the moment.... the baby model from rosarms

it is really nice... pretty sick knife but i am looking for a longer machete... this one is a bit small... i wanted something a bit longer... what are your thoughts?

Mine is the longer version - and the length seems just fine to me. It really depends on the type of vegetation you are cutting though.

Sometimes a longer machete is better for clearing softer stuff. I find the shorter thicker blades (like the Martindale and the HIRO) are good for harder woody vegetation.

And you'd have no trouble using the HIRO for bushcraft type tasks.

Personally I think that a hollow grind is inappropriate for use on machetes or heavy choppers. A flat grind is much more appropriate, whether done in a full flat or a flat-saber grind. A hollow grind is both going to be comparatively delicate (which is less than ideal given the high impact--and possibly twisting--that may occur during chopping and hacking) and be more prone towards binding or wedging during deep cuts.

Just my opinion, though. Glad you're enjoying yours! :)

I thought the same too. All my other machetes are convex grind - but the HIRO has surprised me on that count and it really has me wondering about that overall logic.

IMO generally slices deeper and so far it doesn't seem to bind (at least it hasn't happened to me yet but there is always a first time I suppose).

I was also worried about its edge keeping abilities - again I have been pleasantly surprised.

I'm still concerned about the long delicate tip hitting a rock - but that hasn't happened yet. Oh well... just my pennies.
