Got a chance to do a knife only hunt yesterday... We had a ball and got 3, 2 big boars (175-200 lbs) and one small one (80 lbs).

I got to use the Battle Mistress. A big thanks to KnifeAddictAK for the D-guard tutorial recently -- it definitely helped. The dog handlers were freaking out over the knife, of course.

Here's me with a huge silly grin on my face  . If you like hunting, and ever get the chance -- you definitely want to give this a try. It's a rush to say the least. They call it the "poor man's grizzly"

Very Cool. I have been wanting to give this a try. Do you let the dog's corner it and then stab down between the shoulder blades? Or do you go in behind the shoulder blade?

:D:D

Eric, you could come up under the chest if it were feasible (straight up between the front legs.) Most often, you'll come from the side as the dogs will have the head area. This one I stabbed back a bit because the dog was real close, but was able to angle it forward (toward the hog's head) enough to hit the vitals -- had a 9" blade ;) The heart is very low, basically hidden by his front leg. Best case scenario is to stab under his armpit.

Gravel, yes Bill did that one -- it helped a lot to have that point.

Wicked, yes you kill it w/the knife only... (and the help of some VERY capable dogs ;) )

Good luck Bill!

That is awesome bro!!! Great seeing that bloody d-guard :D

xaman, that blade looks sweet and congratulations on the hog, it's a dandy.

I hear they frown if you mess up and get a dog in the heat of the moment.

Thanks for the pic.

Great picture xaman
What breed’breeds of dogs were you guys using? Luggers obviously.

Those big fellas usually have some experience under their belt from previous encounters with dogs just to make it more interesting. ;):D
