Thats how I wana go... LOL@!

on a serious note I would be worried I would stab a dog:eek: , lots of movement.

That video is pretty cool. Weight-wise, how big do those things get???

They get up to about 1000 pounds believe it or not. However the largest recorded was over 2000 pounds. Where I live they shot a 800+ pounder a while back. Not a stabber unless you have the right brains to balls ratio!:D

Cool! Nice job, Eli! Are they more like feral / razorback mixes down there or like the Russian boar we used to have up in the Smokies?

I don't know where he was stabbin' but here in Florida they are all considered "trespass livestock" and can be killed with no size or bag limit all seasons and I believe all year round for private land. Put it this way, I've had a few in the back of the truck out of season and one warden said, "good job" I was out of season and in a national forest.

Florida sounds exactly like Mo. It was managed a bit more in Tennessee but still, effectively, feral hogs.

I was more curious about the type of hog: The Smokies were almost exclusively big Russian Boar that were introduced a hundred+ years ago. Southern MO (Ozarks) are mostly Eurasian wild boar (razorbacks) that mixed with domestic stock like Hampshire and Yorkies.

Eli - any chance we can get a few close up shots of the BM-e? Would love to see that tip better.

Thanks

wow!!! cool pic!! and great video william m.!!!!

im going next week to paso robles (ca) to do a little boar hunting. we are taking rifles though, im not ready for the knife hunt yet.

anyone have a video or pics of the skinning process??

Nice bag:thumbup: Hunted hog with gun but have never seen it done with a knife, bet that was a rush.

Great picture xaman
What breed’breeds of dogs were you guys using? Luggers obviously.

Those big fellas usually have some experience under their belt from previous encounters with dogs just to make it more interesting. ;):D
Ian.

We had 4 bay dogs -- half hound, half kerr.

We had 3 catch dogs, only used 2 at a time though. The 2 main catch dogs are pits, one white about 60 lbs and a red about 70 lbs. On our last hog, we used a new catch dog (he'd only caught about 20 hogs before) - he was half Dogo, half Catahoula (leopard dog) -- he weighed about 85lbs and was a bit more "leggy". He did good though

Cool! Nice job, Eli! Are they more like feral / razorback mixes down there or like the Russian boar we used to have up in the Smokies?

I'd call them feral / razorback mixes... We don't get to find that russian stock much -- unless you're hunting behind a high fence -- and that's going to cost some big dollars... But if people are bringing them in (big russians and europeans), eventually they'll get out and start multiplying -- that's what they do...

+1. Nice job on the hog, need more pics of the knife!

I had bill put a swedge on the tip (sharpened) and reprofile the edge to symetrical. I love it! We've been through some "battles" together over the last year or so

That looks like alot of fun! Does anyone know if there are places to do that in Northern California?

What blade is the fellow holding in the very end of the video?!

IT WAS A 10' BLADED TANTO WITH A2 STEEL THAT ONE OF MY PATIENTS MADE FOR ME

TAKING THESE 4 KNIVES ON THIS HUNT SATURDAY(THERE WILL BE 3 HUNTERS)

AND I'M SURE "XAMAN" WILL AGREE THAT THE RUSH YOU GET FROM DOING THIS TYPE OF HUNT WILL NOT SOON BE FORGOTTEN

Cool Video Bill.

We weren't fortunate enough to get any of ours out in the open like that --- we were fighting some really thick briars.

It's a blast for sure, hope to get to do it again...

That BM-e would be sweet amongst the hogs

It’s always been an argument of mine about how many dogs should be in at the one time. I’ve always said that more than two spells disaster for the last ones, a pig has only two ears. :D

Dogging pigs has been one of my favorite sports since about 1960, we, in those days preferred the Bull Terrier X Australian Cattle Dog. Today’s favored breeds here lean more towards the Pit Bull crosses and the Bullmastiff crosses.

I’m getting a little too old to be chasing dogs around on foot these days. :D

Here’s (for those that haven’t seen them) a couple of Rats having a recent party amongst the HOGS. :D
