Hog Huntin knife

Daniel,Those hogs dont stand a chance:D
A good friend of mine went to hawaii for his honeymoon, they were offering guided boar hunts with a bowie knife, he declined.I am not the ninja type but i would love to hunt boar with a knife....especially that one:thumbup: (besides them whitetails just move to darn quick to get with a knife:rolleyes: )

Daniel,
Let me try to understand this....you make a fine large poking knife.....you take it and go hunting for an animal that can definitely gore you and very possibly kill you??????
And there is no backup like you carrying a 44 mag or 50 mag handgun??? or a machine gun with alot of ammo???
or someone backing you up with a 50 caliber sniper rifle???

Sir, that is a fine looking knife, and I am sure a fine tool/ weapon, ....but are you sure about going after wild bore with a knife?????

That is kinda like me going after rattlesnakes to harvest their venom for anti-venom....I am not hunting for any rattlesnakes without a 12 guage shotgun and a cyanide pill! in case I need it!!!!!!and some mighty skilled backup who is way overarmed!!!! compared to my little old 12 guage!!!!
I guess an adrenalin rush is a great thing but, "Goodness Gracious!!!!!!!!!!"

Ha ha ha; wicked yak slayer! With a name like that the mall ninjas will be lined up for miles. :D

As for hunting, my brother is a commercially licensed pig hunter here in australia. He mainly uses dogs and knives still, although he'll still let off a round or two before he lets the dogs go; two kills are better than one. He doesnt use no fancy stabber either, just a cheap old bayonet in the throat does the trick.

Great lookin' work, Dan..........

That'll make that ol' hog SQUEAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D

were you able to tape it, DarrylS?

...Sorry Dan...Missed taping that one. It's a Tred Barty program and apparently he has a few programs coming up on The Outdoor Life Network. I think the next ones to be shown are "The Best and Worst of Tred Barty" which will include the boar hunts as well.

No sweat, DarrylS. I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for the others.

Thanks for the kind words, guys!

I do actually. I'll have to dig up the pics and scan them in. I live in the stone age where digital cameras are myth and legend. The catch hunt is a blast. The only thing I would change is that I wouldn't run my dog on a hog again. He walked away with only 5 staples in his shoulder, so you worry more about the dog than enjoying the hunt.
And remember you don't have to go rambo on the hog. Just push. You wind up and stab from like 5 feet away and that hog moves, your either stabbing yourself or one of the dogs. Thrust to the middle of the ribs and a couple of up and down motions and your good to go.

Theres lots of different vests to protect your dogs, my bro has leather ones and seat belt ones. Someone is bound to make 'em in the states

Greg,
I agree with you 100%. If your knife is designed right and you stick the pig/hog in the correct place you feel almost no resistance!!

When i stuck my pig I cut through 3 ribs with no felt resistance!

Oh I vest my dog. A razorback (brand name) cut vest. 5 layers of turtle shell kevlar. it keeps your dog as safe as it can be. it won't stop all things. He just got a tusk under the shoulder flap. 100lb dog vs a 350lb sow. It was pretty intense.

I stuck the sow and just pushed, i was shocked how easy it was. A big enough knife and you can cut the lung in half. thats what your aiming for. If you happen to get the heart your a litle luckier.

finished watching a video on hog-hunting a couple days ago...toward the end they showed trophy hogs (what we're going for) in the 250-400 lb. range....these things are Massive! Anyway, one guy had a short 4" blade hunter and was stabbing over and over and over again. Hog barely noticed! Of course, this was the point where my wife walked in......she's no PETA gal...but she didn't like seeing the 20+ stabs this guy did on this hog...finally the guide hands him a longer blade - couple quick pokes in the right spot and the big guy drops like a sack of potatoes...wait, make that three-and-a-half sacks of potatoes!

Anyway...I'll have my 9" blade ready to go...:o
