A number of years ago an environmental group suggested tigers be introduced to the ecosystem here in Wyoming. They figgered we had big mountains and a lot of uninhabited space, so it was a "natural" fit.

I was all in favor of it. At the time I owned a Winchester Model 70 Safari Express in .375 H&H. All I needed was some catnip underwear.

Zambia: Hippo kills man 30

A 30 year-old man has been killed by a Hippo in Sinazongwe district in Southern Province.

Nangombe ward Councilor Robson Sialukowa confirmed the development to ZANIS that Thomas Siamajele was killed at night while he was allegedly going to steal people’s nets on Lake Kariba.

Mr Sialukowa said the Hippo hit into the canoe he was in together with his two friends and broke it into two pieces.

He explained that the Hippo bruised the head of the deceased, ripped off his chest, and had a dip cut on his leg while his two friends managed to swim to the shore.

In another development some fishermen were also attacked within the same area by the hippos but escaped unhurt.

Mr Sialukowa said the Zambia Wild Life Authority (ZAWA) from Sinazongwe visited the area to scare away the Hippos from attacking people.

In January this year and December last year a 42 year- old man, a 12 year-old boy, and a 13 year- old boy were killed by the crocodile within the same area in separate incidents.

The ward Councilor also disclosed that people’s animals were also being killed by crocodiles in Nangombe area.

Zambia: Hippo kills boy 18

An 18 year-old boy has been killed by a hippo on Lake Kariba in Sinazongwe District in Southern Province.

Nangombwe ward Councilor Robson Sialukowa confirnmed the development and named the boy as Joash Simalugwe of kaduku Village in Chief Sinazongwe area.

Mr Sialukowa said the hippo hit the canoe where the boy was in together with his father who managed to swim to the shore.

He said he was killed while casting his last net on Lake Kariba and his body has not yet been retrieved from the Lake.
The Councilor disclosed that Simalugwe is the boy whose young sister was killed by a crocodile in November last year.

Mr Sialukowa appealed to the Zambia Wild Life Authority (ZAWA) to crop the Hippos and crocodiles on Lake Kariba to save the people’s lives for they depend on fishing.

“Our people should be assisted and the situation should be controlled before the animals continue finish my people I am getting worried with the situation as I keep on reporting about the fatal incidents but no action is taken,” Mr Sialukowa said.

Hippos would never make it in this country. About the first time a redneck got his bass boat broke in half, the hunt would be on and herds of hippos would be seen floating towards New Orleans.
