Hogue Deka: which blade shape?

The Deka is a much "sturdier" knife, and the 20CV steel is tough to beat in that price range.
For the record: I've got both size Bugouts, and a Deka...
I love all three of them!

I got an amazing deal on the Magnacut version at SMKW. I had heard the scales were slippery and cheap, so ordered some Blade Scale G10 scales on the same day. They arrived and did a dissasembly, cleanip, and scale swap out of the box. It really changes the feel and look of this blade. Have been carrying over the weekend, and this baby is a slicer. That thin blade just absolutely destroys boxes and cardboard. It just wants to cut and cut! Really pleased so far.

Looks great! I got the red version of those scales for my Polymer MC Deka and as you said, it really improved the feel for me.

Oh nice, that looks amazing. Are those Blade Scales? When did you order them? I have been stalking their site and they seem to be out of all but black, jade, and green.

Only thing i am disappointed with is the durability of the cerakote. Have only used for 5 days, cut down a good amount cardboard and other box materials. I would expect streaking, but not actually chipping or worn off coating. I have a black civivi altus that has been in use for months with no visible worn off coating.E1A1E778-430A-4CCE-A3F4-7562214FC715.jpegDBC11DD3-CA8B-434F-B0D6-61DA012DE2F3.jpeg

Yeah, the red ones are, the 'murica themed ones are SMKW exclusive. When I got my MagnaCut Deka back in June, I was bummed with the feel of the squishy plastic scales, so I emailed a few different scale makers and asked if they planned to make scales for the Deka. The Blade Scales guy seemed interested and asked a few questions, then I got an email from him in the first week of August saying the scales were now available if I was still interested. Very glad I got them, it's an awesome combo for my purposes.

Excellent! I would really like to see more scale options available, hopefilly more makers will jump on board.

On-topic, I ordered a Deka in that funky multi-grind Wharncliffe shape, because A. I've got more than enough drop-points in my collection, and B. I got it for a good price from one of our Bladeforums dealers. I'm looking forward to checking it out!
Just wondering what you think of this guy, assuming you did get it. I’m partial to wharnies, as they seem to suit most of the cutting I do better than drop points. I’m this close to pulling the trigger on this one.

I have both the clip point and warning. While I really like them both, I have to give the nod to the Warnie blade. Sharpens well and cuts even better.

I wish I could really give you a good, objective review, but the fact is that I got it in, held it for a moment and then immediately gave it to a friend of mine I had over. It was too small for me, and I just wasn't a fan. It seemed well made, and the edge was screaming sharp, but that's about all I can say about it.

Thanks for the honest reply. My hands are on the smaller side of average, so I don’t think the size would be an issue for me. I’ve got a Mini Osborne, which I like a lot, but that’s a bit small for me to think about for EDC. Great for around the house stuff and fidgeting, though.

Just pull the trigger. No one can tell you if it's right for you. The knife is well built (my wife has the drop point), it's fidget friendly, and the steel is great.

The grind is a bit different, but it was designed that way for a reason, maybe it suits your needs.

What is behind their specific Wharncliffe design? I previously looked at the Hogue website and did some google searches, but I couldn't find an explanation.

(As you can tell from my post count, I am new here and have recently started an EDC hobby.)

I bought the Deka clip point and it arrived today. I initially wanted the Wharncliffe, but I went with the clip point because I was concerned the Wharncliffe would be harder to sharpen with its two different grinds and the change in the blade direction.

(I am also new to sharpening my own knives. I have a Hapstone on order. I know that is overkill for EDCs but I wanted something big enough for my kitchen knives.)
