Hogue Deka: which blade shape?

What is behind their specific Wharncliffe design? I previously looked at the Hogue website and did some google searches, but I couldn't find an explanation.

(As you can tell from my post count, I am new here and have recently started an EDC hobby.)

I bought the Deka clip point and it arrived today. I initially wanted the Wharncliffe, but I went with the clip point because I was concerned the Wharncliffe would be harder to sharpen with its two different grinds and the change in the blade direction.

(I am also new to sharpening my own knives. I have a Hapstone on order. I know that is overkill for EDCs but I wanted something big enough for my kitchen knives.)
The only thing I can guess regarding the compound grind on this wharncliffe is, you’re going to get more leverage on the blade the closer to the pivot you’re cutting with, so they made that part a little thicker; whereas you’re more likely to be doing more intricate slicing farther out towards and on the tip, so that’s narrower. Could also be it’s just part design element, too. The more I look at it, the more I like it. I haven’t pulled the trigger yet - gonna sleep on it one more night, then see if I’m in the mood to whip out the plastic tomorrow.

Thanks, Danny.

I am still undecided on whether I am keeping the clip point. The Deka handle grip doesn't match up on my hand as well as I'd like, though I love the sturdiness of the scales. The knife feels solid in my hand.

I am keeping the clip point. But to cover my bases, I ordered a Wharncliffe in 20CV red lava for my girlfriend for her birthday next month. :-) And it is on sale at KnifeCenter, too.

Delivered a day early! First off, I gotta say, these scales don’t feel squishy to me at all. They’re ridiculously light, and do feel a little plasticky, but they certainly feel stiff enough. As for the whole thing, I’m very happy with it right out of the box. Blade is crazy sharp, action is nice and smooth with no ‘break-in’ period required, size is about perfect, and it just feels nice to fidget with. This should be really nice to carry in pants lighter than jeans.

Any thoughts out there on the SMKW exclusive Deka Scorpion. Just dropped today, standard cerakote wanrnie, but with gold and black marbled CF scales. List at 199. Seems a bit of a hike for the upgrade scales, is it just me? Then again the aftermarket scales i used ran 70, so maybe not. Maybe it is just i wish they had done this one in the stonewash finish.

Ooh. I just bought the ‘regular’ Deka magnacut, and have those same G10 scales on order, otherwise I’d seriously consider it. I think the scale upgrade is worth it … but maybe not if you already have one of the other flavor. If you plan on using it heavily, then yeah, the cerakote on the blade wouldn’t be highly recommended. I like the looks of it myself, but not enough to buy a second one.

Sweet, I would love to try out the Scorpion, but I already have the Deka clip point coated 20CV FDE, bought my GF the wharnie coated 20CV KnifeCenter red lava, and said I would stop after that. But then bought two other knives in the last week. And I am still saying I am going to stop. ;-)
