The only thing I can guess regarding the compound grind on this wharncliffe is, you’re going to get more leverage on the blade the closer to the pivot you’re cutting with, so they made that part a little thicker; whereas you’re more likely to be doing more intricate slicing farther out towards and on the tip, so that’s narrower. Could also be it’s just part design element, too. The more I look at it, the more I like it. I haven’t pulled the trigger yet - gonna sleep on it one more night, then see if I’m in the mood to whip out the plastic tomorrow. What is behind their specific Wharncliffe design? I previously looked at the Hogue website and did some google searches, but I couldn't find an explanation.
(As you can tell from my post count, I am new here and have recently started an EDC hobby.)
I bought the Deka clip point and it arrived today. I initially wanted the Wharncliffe, but I went with the clip point because I was concerned the Wharncliffe would be harder to sharpen with its two different grinds and the change in the blade direction.
(I am also new to sharpening my own knives. I have a Hapstone on order. I know that is overkill for EDCs but I wanted something big enough for my kitchen knives.)
