I would go for the basic 560 Freek, s30v, plain blade. I don't like coatings either. It is less expensive, and fine for EDC, and most uses.
Have to agree I do love my 560 in s30v it's a really nice knife. I do however want a Ritter but that's more so to help support Doug Ritter. Even if he only gets 10% of every knife sold I respect what that man does. 20191120_072803.jpg

I wanted the Ritter--until I received mine for Christmas gift, expecting it to be 20cv as on the Knifeworks site, and what I got was M390 steel. I contacted Knifeworks, with the gift receipt from my wife, they won't reply to emails. Great service, on top of false advertising.

Interesting, they must have old stock still. Even though those two steels are nearly the same is still not right sending something that isn't what you thought you paid for.

I've had both now for maybe a week and I wish I could have the Ritter blade and lock with the Benchmade scales. I'm thinking maybe looking for a set of custom scales for the Ritter.

Probably because they were closed on the 26th, and will re-open on the 27th. It's rolling around to 8am on the 27th in Louisiana right now, so you'll most likely receive a reply today.

Interestingly, the product page says "Specifications subject to change without notice". Despite this, I doubt you'll have an issue returning the knife.

I am sorry you are upset, but the reason you didn't get a response is that Roger gave his employees the day after Christmas off since they had worked until mid-night Christmas Eve. As such, there was nobody there to respond. As for the M390 vs 20CV, if you want an exchange or credit, that's not a problem. Not sure how that happened, but the change to 20CV was a running change, since they are interchnagable steels from our perspective, and its possible some leftover M390s were left in stock when the change occurred. In any case, they are in the office today, just call toll free 888-225-9775 and ask for Ashley and she will take care of a cost-free exchange or credit.

So, did you get a response from Knifeworks?

I've owned both. The Ritter is a great design. The steel has been tested to around 60 HRC. M4 is superior to M390/20cv for my uses. I'd opt for the M4 Freek.

I think it will be awhile before anyone does that.

I've had great experience with Knifeworks. Give it a little time for the holidays to get over.

Still loving my Hogue Ritter what a great knife!

Got my Orange Ritter coming in...Friday.Hopefully it's some 20CV
Congrats ! I’m pretty sure it will be 20cv that’s what my orange one is that I got a month or so ago.I think that’s what there using now instead of m390 which was on my black one I had from the earlier runs.

Patiently waiting on a mini. I still carry my Benchmade mini Ritter in S30v regularly it has the best blade profile out of the grip family hands down.

I've been out of the loop on knives lately as my hobbies shifted towards watches. As I was lurking around lately I kept seeing what I thought were custom griptilians until this thread. I followed they link and learned the Ritter Grip got an upgrade with the "new-to-me" partnership with Hogue. What a deal. I picked one up in orange and it arrived today. It feels great in the hand.and I can't wait to put it to use.
