Hogue EX01 !!!

They are front heavy but I think it's the pivot area with the bolster plates and not so much the blade itself. On my 3.5 green G-Mascus the balance point is directly under the pivot just in front of the choil.

These are super fine knives regardless. My 4" black G-Mascus is due in the mail in the next 30 minutes.

handled a 4" tanto in black g-mascus, I would like a drop point. Maybe 3.5", these are really blade heavy.

i havent handled a g10 one yet, but i would say dont be afraid of the aluminum version. these aluminum handles are some of the best ive ever seen. it feels great. i want a bigger one, but the 3.5 version already feels perfect so im not sure.

my only question us how do you tighten the pivot screw on these ??

Easy enough. Remove two of the clip screws (easy as they are screwed into metal threads), swing the clip aside with the remaining screw still attached but loose. Adjust the Torx pivot screw to your desired tension then replace the two clip screws and secure all thre screws.

heh i actually didnt see the pivot screw hidden under the clip:foot:

That's too funny. Since I prefer tip-up carry, I immediately changed the clip over on both of my Hogues.

What's odd about the Hogues is that they use torx screws at certain areas & allen head screws at other areas. I believe the pivot & clip screws are torx & the handle screws are allen head. Kind of odd.

Awesome knives but the 3.5 is still to big for me, a 3 and 4 inch version would be better.
I would buy a 3 inch version if it exists.

Can someone post complete pics of the 4" aluminum handle version vs. the 3.5" g-mascus. I have the 3.5" now and am thinking about the 4". I heard the aluminum ones don't have the steel bolster. I would like to see photos of how that looks and works. Thanks.

The handle slab screws are 2-56, 5/16" long, with a .050 hex recess. I replaced mine, too, with stainless Torx T7 screws. The new screws are like the clip screws, and they fit flush with the handle (the originals have thinner heads, and were recessed more).

Allen has said that future production will have all Torx screws. He's not sure when that will happen.

And polished the clip edge.

I am thinking about buying another 4" green aluminum drop point as a spare. Not very many knives do I buy two of! Best knife I have handled in a long time. Wonder if the lock will hold up to hard use?

Great pix, trix!! Thanks for sharing. I've been wanting to see the guts of this knife in high-res.

hard for one person isn't the same and hard for another.

If you just want a "beater" knife look at some of cold steel's triad locks.

either way I'm confident Hogue will back up their product in the event of knife failure. certainly if they wish to have a customer for life.

Allen does test on his designs. I believe that button lock of his was one of the reasons Hogue came to him...IT'S F**KIN' AWESOME!!!

I have the 4" tanto with black alum handles - I strayed away from tantos a while ago but I really liked this one with it.

It is quite a lot of knife for the money.

The blade was Chris Reeve sharp out of the box and had a polished edge.

i got one of the 4 aluminum tantos and its just about my favorite "big" folder. no complaints about this knife at all.

I've always had little interest in tanto blades, but damn, the grind on this one is just wicked! I may have to reassess my preferences until sometime after I drop a couple hundred bucks on one of those!
