Hogue knives

I like how you are so determined to get “back to topic” after you have had your say and after you have mis-quoted me.
It’s amazing how someone can be pro knife and anti gun. We are just different sides of a coin.
Most things in life have some sort of polar opposite, I suppose it’s likely for them to intersect at some point.

The only hogue knife that I've tried are two Hogue Ritter. They are great folders with great value. However, in terms of the quality, they are on par with Benchmade. I do not see or feel any significant improvement of the ABLE lock over the Axis lock. They are basically the same thing and I really see no need to spread the mystery.

Looking for a replacement pocket clip for my Hogue EX 1. Could somebody help me out with this, please?
Contact Hogue. Their response time is pretty quick and they sent me a new clip free.

I guess you changed your mind about that "staying on topic" thing.

I assume since you are quoting me you are assuming I am anti-gun. Anyone who knows me would laugh at that assumption. I have been shooting all my life and have more guns than most of the people here.

It's bad enough that you have misquoted me, but now you act like you know me. Strange behavior!

You associated a crime with the tool used, as if the inanimate object was now somehow villainous.
I really wasn’t even addressing you personally, but you have certainly sent up a red flag for me now.
Most here can separate tool from intent, no matter what tool it is.
I don’t know you, all I have to go on is what you say in a largely anonymous Internet forum.
You seem bothered by my opinion on the matter, I don’t agree with yours, but haven’t given it a second thought after my first post, that was until you continued to address me personally.

Would you condemn a car sold at a police auction because it was the get away vehicle in a robbery?

Let’s get this thread back on topic before it gets locked.

I picked up the Mini RSK in the middle because I’m a sucker for purple knives and was looking for a good reason to get an RSK.

I own several Benchmade Grips including a Mini Ritter Grip, and the Hogue is as good or better than any of them in terms of fit and finish. I do prefer the tension on the BM Axis lock vs. the Hogue Able Lock, but that could be due to what I’m used to.

Aside from the Hogue clip my only other complaint would be the super aggressive texture on the Hogue G10. It’s just a bit too much for my EDC needs.

I’ve been planning to sand it down a little but I hate taking apart/putting together sliding-bar lock knives! I end up asking my wife to help me and feel like a clutz!

I have carried a small pocket knife for decades, but I just recently started making folders a hobby. I bought both a Bugout and a Deka, intending to return the Bugout to REI after comparing the two. I ended up keeping both, but I don't carry the Bugout often. The Deka came ready to use, nice action, no adjustments needed. The G10 feels much more substantial than the CF-Elite and, for my intended uses, the 20CV is better than the S30V.

The Deka was $166, the Bugout $158. For me the Deka is a much better value. Though, I haven't put either of them to heavy use yet. So far, just typical household use.

I'm wanting to try the magnacut version deka.
Do you guys feel the ht is good and scales feel good ?

I mentioned the Hogue-made Sig K320 a few pages earlier. Still liking this knife, love the fact that I got the metal handles. Yes it's a chonky knife, but feels much more balanced IMHO than some other knives with lighter handle materials. It gets used, but doesn't see heavy use (none of my knives do these days), so little visible wear so far. I like it considerably better than the Grip and Mini Grip I have, and like it almost as much as my Spyderco Natives.

OldHercDude OldHercDude I've had my eye on those K320s lately. Seems like a sleeper knife that deserves more attention. However, I haven't got one yet to know one way or the other. How's the grind on it? It looks flat ground, does it come down to a pretty thin edge or is it thicker? Thanks.

Edge is not bad but still a little thick IMHO.

Comparisons with other stuff I have...

All my traditional pocket knives are thinner and slicier.

Pushing into and cutting carboard and cardstock - K320 does slightly better than my Griptillian.

Angled edge cut through cardboard and cardstock - Griptillian does better than the K320.

My Native 5 does both of those things with less effort than the Grip or the K320.

All IMHO based on how things feel in my hand doing the task, so definitely a YMMV thing.

Hard to say about the heat treat without really beating on it, and I’m a pretty easy knife user. I’ve got the Wharncliff compound grind, and all I can say is, it looks nice and cuts superbly. Polymer scales are ‘ok’ - obviously chosen to meet a price point, but I felt the knife deserves better and opted for the Blade Scales G10, which are a definite upgrade. Nothing wrong with the factory scales, other than making the knife feel cheaper, but they do their job. I do wish Hogue offered more scale options - I certainly would have paid a few $$$ more for some of the G10 choices they have on other knives. But in my opinion, that’s no reason not to grab one - it’s still a really nice knife, especially at that price. This was my first Hogue, and I have no reservations about buying another one.

Oh that's pretty good then as Grips have always cut well for me. Yeah, I just may have to start looking for one of those. When I first got into knives I though aluminum handled knives were super badass, then I saw a bunch of people say they didn't like them, and I started questioning it. However, the longer I've been into knives the more I see that I was originally right in that aluminum scales are some of the best for me.

Handles vary for me.

I prefer the G10 to the FRN on the Native line.

I have the FRN (?) on the Grip and Mini Grip, and really not a big fan of those.

For me, the K320 is chonky enough I think the metal helps the overall balance in the hand. And the G10 inserts help with gripping. I do wish the combination of uncoated blade and metal handle was available.

Oh shoot, true that on the coating! I never realised that all the blades were coated on the aluminum handled versions, bummer. Oh well, I guess we can't have it all.

Has anyone had good luck/quick response from Hogue through their website contact form? I have tried twice now over the last 2 months and still have no response. It's about screws for a belt clip on my Deka, one of the screws' head broke off when finger tightening.

I could try calling the 800 number I guess, but my work hours make it hard to do while they are open.

Had the same issue in trying to contact them via web back in my firearm days: no response. Contact via phone always worked better. Good luck. 🍀

Honestly I would call. I've tried emailing them in the past and they took around a month to get back to me. They also seem to be a bit more responsive on Instagram.
