Holding knives hostage? Advice

An empty box to file a claim, who would have thought
Especially when the USPS record shows the box arrived empty.

The shipping weight was how much

Why make an obvious resolution so convoluted that the only people that will want to deal with you here are all listed on the wall of shame!!!

Make this right, nurse the self-inflicted black eye and hope people forget how stinky you can make things....

Is it possible that the knives were actually in the box when it was orginally handed off to the post office? I'm asking because as previously noted, it is odd for a person with good feedback to just up and flake on a transaction. As I recall 'received without contents' simply means that the carrier delivered it without said contents, not that it was given to them as an empty box?

They were in the box. I am sending his knife back to him. I will just take the loss or hopefully the Post Office will work with me on it. We shall see. Thanks for all your opinions. I do have 54 positive trades meaning that 54 people plus have had no issues dealing with me. One trade gone bad and look what happens.

1911rush, dont sweat it. As long as you insured the package for the value of the knives your claim will pay out. I have sent knives that were removed from the package twice in transit( and not from lack of crazy amounts of tape and glue) and when I filed the claim I just explaied what happed and included a pic of the empty package that the buyer sent me) and they paid out quicky the full value of the insurance both times. I am glad also that you are returning his knife reguardless. It is the right thing to do. Good on you.

Thanks NCCNC. I'm hoping the same thing happens for me. Hopefully Mr. Johnson won't mind sending me what pics he has.

Having had to file USPS claims on two occasions, they do indeed want the box if possible. It definitely made my first claim go through easier. It is evidence for the claim. You should however go ahead and start the claim now with the pics that were taken. If I recall correctly the PO will take up to 60 days after the claim to make a decision.

That's what I was thinking had happened here after reading through the first post. It seems like what happens from time to time. The package is sent with contents inside, it comes open in transit and stuff gets lost the the carrier delivers it anyway and marks it that they did so with contents. This is exactly the sort of thing USPS etc offers insurance for.
