Hollow ground,Convex & Scandi, a quick test !

Great comparison pitdog, I've been constantly checking ragweedforge to see if they got in that mora yet!

Interesting topic ,the comparative benefits of different grinds. I am not surprised the skandis did the best on wood as they are ideal for that.
I like all the different types for different jobs.

If you are choosing 1 grind to do everything I like a convex bevel with a zero or no secondary edge. Because of the advantages of a convex shape you can run it thinner than you can other grinds without chipping or rolling.

I am really starting to like the slight hollow grind on my Rosarms bayonet. It has all the advantages of a high flat grind with a tiny loss of lateral strength but things are much less likely to bind like on a flat grind and it seems much sharper.

Great pics and i really like that mora. You must have been worried when maisy swam so far out? She seems like a really great dog and I really appreciate the photos.

Thanks bro !;)

I have an older AUS8 Japanese Grunt and a newer Chinese Grunt. Both are excellent. The Japanese version has a slighly grippier handle and cleaner grinds. The Japanese Grunts also came with much nicer sheaths.

The Grunt is one of the best deals in knives right now. I can\'t think of any other place that you can get a 3/16\" thick convex ground stainless blade with one of the most comfortable handles ever put on a knife for just $20.

I think your Kabar suffered more from the location of the beginning of the edge vs the handle than from the grind. Same for your swamp rat. You really need to get the edge near the hand for this type of task to get good control. Also, I think the scandi grind is really good on wood. The shoulder of the grind allows very good depth control.

Cool test and pics.

What Fiddleback said.

Nice pics and testing. The scandi grind is my choice for working on wood. That's what it's for. For other stuff, there are better grinds, but for woodwork the scandi is the top dog.

She's too pooped bro ! I think she was trying out for the olympic swimming team today, check this out !!!!

First she checked the water temp....

Wow. haha. Maisy is a trip

My first scandi knife was a Mora and I loved it. Unluckily around my kneck of the woods you have to order them in. I was so impressed with the scandi edge that I put in the multiple hours with a dimond hone to scandi edge my Camillus Pilots survival knife, and a usmc Ka bar. My knife which I EDC now ic a convex edge R-10 from HI. This knife performs well but is a little thick so I've ordered a custom from Koyote which should perform a bit better.

Damn man, dont take that dog to the ocean!

Nice job with the knives to. Pretty much follows what I have thought, but never really compared side be side.

Pitdog, it looks like ragweedforge has got the Mora (#S-04) in stock, but they say it's a stainless steel. Is yours carbon or stainless?

Ahhhh, now you've done it. There is going to be a run on those babies. :D Hang on to your at Ragnar...

Ordered!

Pitdog, thanks to all your posts and pictures, you've influenced me to buy two of your knives, the DMCG and that mora. I know the DMCG isn't your favorite knife, but it's easily mines, and the mora should be nice in my collection because it's the opposite of the DM!

I haven't gotten a knife for so long, so I'm real excited to get this one. :D
