Andy Pomorski and I are beginning discussions about a spear collaboration. I'm looking to have him forge out some blanks for me, similar in concept to the Cold Steel Bushman series, in that they will have a hollow sleeve-like handle that can be used as a knife, or attached to a pole with a screw for use as a spear. If this project gets underway, we'll use thicker stock than the Bushman series so the points will be "stab a car door" durable. Most likely the alloy will be 15N20 at 61 HRC with lean grinds at the edges, increasing in the last couple inches to more robust point grind. Blade shape and size are not yet determined, and I'm considering keeping that open to custom requests. These will not be available in stainless.

No pricing determined at this time.

DocJD DocJD what's the inside diameter at the base opening where the handle would go in?

Thank you

My best guesstimation is about 1" tapering down to .75" .

This is the shaft I have mounted : https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005KDD0XQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Nominal 1.25" diameter but measures ~1.1" at the opening . It tapers . Fit pretty easy , IIRC .

It's stuck in there , very stubbornly , after throwing into wood targets .

Plus I have the whole thing wrapped in silicone tape . So can't really measure the ID directly .

I thought about getting a Bowie bushman and doing the same plus a sharpened top edge

I own one spear and would be interested in another. The head came solo and I mounted it on a 6 foot (1.83 m 😜) red oak staff. Keep in mind the type of aperture so it’s semi-standard sized so some of the martial arts staffs would fit. Kind of a moot point as I still had to use a draw knife to make it fit. Sorry, I am a bit of a geek about about spears.

Bobthebrewer Bobthebrewer where did you go to order your staff? I need to mount a spearhead and would like to source my own, but finding a straight branch of quality wood in my region is nigh impossible.
