I was at a pawn shop buying a new 9mm pistol (Springfield XDm) and a guy walked in trying to sell a 12ga shotgun. He opened the case and pulled out his late fathers "home defense gun" which just happened to be a new F/N Police 12ga! The shop owner looked at it and told the guy that it looked modified? He said "come on, that thing has AR sights and an extended Mag. There's no way that's stock." The guy left the pawn shop and I caught up with him in the parking lot. I asked him to wait a few minutes so I could finish my handgun paperwork and he agreed. I finished up and came back out and asked him what he was looking to get for the gun. He obviously wasn't a "gun person" and had no idea what it was worth. I broke it down and examined it carefully and determined that it had never even been fired. He said he wanted $200 for it, having no idea what it was worth. He said his wife, who was in the car with a young child, just wanted it out of the house. I noticed that his car didn't look like it was in very good shape and he had a hole on one of his shoes. Now I had planned to go to a gun show tomorrow and had a good bit of cash on me. If I had come across this shotgun at the show, I would have bought it, even at retail because I've been looking for this model for over a year. Anyway, seeing his wife, child, crappy shoes, etc.. made me offer him the full $500 that I had on my person. His wife saw the money and looked like she was going to cry. I would have bought it for $800 at the show and been happy about it. I've been fortunate to keep my job in this economy and even go back to school part time to work on my Master's so I figured that this was a good chance to share my good fortune. I wrote up a bill of sale, traded info, and brought this little gem home. It has a 9 ounce buffer in the collapsible stock and a ported barrel. I'm about to order a Hogue grip and light mount from Midway.com to round out my new toy.
Of course the only acceptable thing to do was go right to the range and try it out. It was sighted perfectly for 50 yards and shot several 2-3in groups with Berneke Slugs and patterned 00 Buckshot around 12-14in at 20 yards!
