Home Defense Shotgun- I think I got a good one!!!

All I can say, Md 25v, is that you did "good" on several fronts. You scored a great piece of gear, and gave those people a second — perhaps their only — Christmas.

Ya done good, brother, ya done good.

That is a real nice looking shotgun.

Also a very nice thing that you did for those folks.
Good deeds always come back...

Cheers
Dave

Great gun! but true kuddos to you for what you did. I knew a guy that whenever a guy died in his church, he would routinely buy their guns from their widow for next to nothing, then resell them for a big profit, used to make me sick.

And he was the pastor no less! :(

You Sir, merit my absolute respect for your kindness, and for your excellent taste in firearms!

There is a problem with this story somewhere. Somebody does not become "down and out" overnight but what you are describing is not a short term economic hiccup. This family appeared to have significant financial difficulties but had possession of an and unusual and expensive shotgun? How did it come into their possession? The guy admitted he was not a competitor, LEO, or "gun guy". Why a pawn shop and not a dealer? A few too many red flags for me.

MD, it sounds to me like you are a great guy trying to do the right thing. Do everyone a favor and have a friendly LEO run this gun through NCIC. You do risk loss of the gun and $500 but you also risk having a stolen firearm in your possession.

You definitely did a good thing. It's good to see someone care more about going right by someone then about money. Hopefully a low life trying to sell a stolen gun wouldn't bring his wife and kid along though and I'm sure you wouldn't have bought it if anything felt "off" about the guy, but yeah - I would get it checked out by LE just so you have a clear conscience.

Awesome.
Now I'm not saying there's any such thing as a metephysical force of karma, but it IS true that good things happen to people who do good. You'll be glad you did this one day.
I AM saying that there is such a thing as Karma, it was working for you to find a deal like that, and since you treated the guy so well I'm sure it'll come around for another visit. Honesty is a good thing, you could have been honest and given him $200, but compassion is worth alot more in times like these.

there is no need for that. If you read the op, then you would have seen where I said it was his "late" father's gun. As in his father passed away and he was selling his things.

I admit I missed that in the OP. That makes me feel a little better but.....
Doesn't change your good deed. Well Done.

You have no proof other than the word of the seller? Possession of a stolen firearm is a felony, bought in good faith or not, I would have it checked. Chris

No worries.
FWIW, I work next to the Nat Rec Police CTR division. I ran next door and had the number run. The name that came up was the same last name as the guy's license that I copied so I assume it was his father's. You did have a point, better safe than sorry.

There is NO reason to believe that it is stolen!
Non-Registered weapons are cash and carry and unless something seems off (which it didn't) buying a gun from an individual at his house, a yard sale, or a pawn shop is a very common occurrence.

Worked in the business for 20 years, cash and carry between private citizens is perfectly legal, it doesn't change the fact that, as I said, possession of a stolen firearm is a felony, regardless of how it was obtained.

I am not trying to be a buzz kill but buying firearms from down and out people in a parking lot is not a safe way to obtain them. Further more, there is nothing wrong with making sure everything is on the up and up. Chris
