HoMeGrOwN...Spydercos!

Well, just something I did to a delica II.

I got it in used condition, so I polished out the small scratches. Next, I took some Carbon Fibre and make some scales.

Just drill some holes, tap for thread, and off you go....

indeed! i would love to hear what particular technique u used to fabricate the carbon scales. Do u buy a slab of Carbonfiber and saw away? How about that polishing?

Great professional work!

As a farmer every implement I till my fields with have been modified to suit my needs. I think it is a great form of self expression to modify enhance or embellish the piece you like to carry. I like the enhancements pictured in this thread. Each piece pictured is now personalized. Santa Fe Stone Works expresses the art of channel inlay beautifully on thier modified knives, many of which are Spydercos. As a knife maker every knife I make is different and unique, even those of the same model design. If progress is made by improving on the past especially in a many milleni art-craft, the best is yet to come. Computers and CAD have brought many up to speed and we probably have more people engaged in knife design and construction then there has ever been in the history of mankind. Every new modification presented is a seed of growth, some flurish some don't, we all get richer as this body of knowledge and experience grows. To take the risk of improving a good knife takes courage. To finish the piece to your liking takes determination. I don't care how much and hour a person earns, the finished project reflects that investment. The finished piece reflects a new more courageous, more determined "YOU". This is all good...Take Care...ED

Yup, buy a piece of Carbon Fibre and saw away...

Finish the slabs with a Dremel tool.

I used sandpaper to polish the scratches out. Didn't take very long.

BTW, you're in Belgium too? Cool.

jaja in de buurt van Antwerpen
Wist niet dat er zoveel bug lovers waren in ons landje!

Ga ik zeker ook eens proberen! Waar heb je die carbon gekocht?

My first Spyderco.. a Delica 4 I bought new last month. Customized by me.
My finger was always wanting to go the spot between blade & handle.. so i dremeled a choil into there.. inspired by other Spydercos with forward choils. The zip tie wave works great.. too good in fact, i have to be careful when taking knife out without it opening. I'm considering doing what T-Wan did..http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showpost.php?p=3823700&postcount=37

The spine, spydie hole, and jimping were kind of sharp when holding it left-handed so I smoothed them out w/ dremel also.

The action was a bit tight.. i took it all apart but found there was very little to polish.. everything was already pretty smooth from the factory. it had the bronze phosphor washers too. But after a couple hundred openings.. it smoothed out.
Q. Is there an easier way to get the back spacer back in?? trying to get those 2 plastic tabs into the metal liner holes were a pain in the butt!

Got it from TheBladeShop.com for $40 + $8 shipping. Their prices were alright.. but it took 'em 2 weeks just to process my order, almost another week to ship.. then they shipped the Wrong one to boot (i wanted combo blade).. so i don't think i'll be buying from them again. This was first week of November. In contrast I got my HRLM from Swamp Rat Knife Works in 3 days!

This Delica is the best folder i've ever had.. I carry it EVERYWHERE with me ALL the time.. hardly know it's there. The VG-10 seems to be holding up pretty well.. next on my list is a Sharp Maker and something in S30V.. but currently my funds are being waylaid by a sudden fascination with Infi, SR-101 & SR-77..

Anyways.. cheers.

That's some great work from everyone so far.

Here's mine, modified by STR:

nice.. what kind of wood is that?
how does it stay on.. epoxy?

Wood is cocobolo - yes, it was epoxied on with Devcon/30 min/2 ton. Bit of a pilot project, in one sense. Currently, it's been sanded to about 600 grit and then I used a polishing stick with green rouge for the final finish. I like the Police, but it was too slippery for my dry hands so I was trying to figure out a way to make it a little grippier and not wreck the SS part if something didn't work out:) I still might thin it down more, but we'll see if the epoxy holds thru some EDC things for a couple of weeks and see if the wood dings up or not. Once I get where I want it, I'll probably finish with tung oil and re-polish to a satin finish.

Hope this helps - gord

here's, previously mine, now FireFigter880's dad's, semi flat ground Police, next to some regulars to show the difference:
