I like a lot of what The Dept, of the Navy is doing. Jim Jones, Brute and Brute Jr. and others have been good Marine Corps Commandants. I could dig out the chain of command. The Corps is the last bastion of the Warrior ethic.
I kind of liked Jerry Borda. He was a good sailor. I don`t know that I`d eat a .45 over a phony Combat Action Ribben. It is not the CIB. Of course he would not wear that for long without earning it.
The Army are wimps unless they can hump the ruck, and few can anymore. Co ed Basic; what is that? It is 9 wks. now. Not the 16 in 1964.
I am armed with poetry and I`m not afraid to use it. You are fairly warned.
Unknown to most, there is a fourth Armed Service.
I am a senior officer, Army, Inf., as you may have guessed. I know what is going on. I get reports.
I belive that the question was:" What is the best kukukri for combat." The BAS is, duh! Where is it good? Not in the sand box. A k- bar type will serve you better for less weight. A shovel might be handy. Sharpen the edge. Use your imagination. Next, bring a pail. Have some fun. Now if you are a Para, SF or a Ranger, a Skykes-Fairbairn might be just the ticket. You will not be digging in.
I have all of the kukukries known to man. I use one every year to rip the rib cage of deer and split their pelvis. A steel brings it right back. The BAS gets the nod. I use others as well. The Ang Kola for wood splitting for example. Unless your only tactic is the Ghurka charge and hacking, you might wish to consider the other shapes.
The Corps is the only service to have a regular historian. Thus, they have the most complete history. I suggest that some of you read it. There are clearly some short memories here.
The usni. org publishes Naval Procedings. They are on line now.
You may wish to see what the Naval Commanders have to say about the matter.
