The great swiss army knife:
It looks boring
Everyone has one
The blades are slow deploy and non tactical
The tools look kind of geeky

BUT...
It just works
It is cheap and is very replaceable
They have fantastic fit and finish (amazing for the price)
The blades cut better than many of todays most popular knives
They last for years and years. Of all the knives listed on blade forums, the SAK is the most common to be carried for a decade or more by users here
They are people friendly. They arent seen as deadly weapons.
The average joe uses em--and the more knife users the better.
They make fantastic gifts and of all the knife gifts I give these are the ones that are most well received and used.

The SAK is just a all round great tool to have in your pocket or your bag. I think every knife nut should at least carry a small classic on their keys :)

The SAK was my first knife and i will probably always carry one. I don't find them to be the most fun knife in the world but for me they just work. They get the job done.

Just felt like posting about a useful knives that often doent get a lot of love :p

Your reasoning is why I have a Tinker or Cadet in my pocket AT ALL Times!

You will find little disagreement around here. My EDC blades come and go, but an Explorer Plus is always in my pocket.

Always in my truck. And I use the can opener frequently. SAKs just work, and those Alox Pioneers are elegant in their simplicity.

I love the knife but I am always disappointed in the fact that there are no pliers like in a leatherman. :(

Others come and go, but for almost a year and a half, every single day my ALOX cadet is with me

I've had a little Victorinox knife on my keychain for decades. Those little scissors have trimmed more hangnails and loose threads than I can count and I've probably scraped a dump truck full of dirt from under my nails with the blade over the years.

It's beaten and scarred but still works like a champ. My great-grandson asked me if he could have it a while back, so I bought few for all my grands/great-grands at Christmas. I know I would have loved to have one when I was a kid.

I always carry a SAK and the last couple of months I tend to only carry a SAK as EDC knife. My single blade folders and fixed blade knives are moved to the box with outdoor gear.

You hit that one out of the park. My $14 Recruit is better made than alot of $40 knives I've seen.

That sounds right. Before I started reading these forums and before I knew what EDC stood for I bought a Victorinox Cybertool (since renamed to Cybertool 34) and started carrying it everyday. It got pocket lint and grit in it so I bought a leather holster for it and I have been carrying that SAK in that holster every day for about 10 years and I don't intend to stop doing that any time soon. The Cybertool 34 is a great tool with a very useful range of screwdrivers and is you keep the blades sharp those FFG stainless blades will handle most cutting tasks with ease. I keep both blades 'shaving sharp' and find them to be very useful.

I think that there should be a law against leaving the house without a SAK!

Amen Brother!!!!

My alox soldier is worth 10 times what I paid for it. All my saks are the most used knives in my collection.

SAK blades get really sharp and they cut really well... actually I'd say they cut better than a lot of thicker one hand deployed folders. My alox Pioneer can also do some other stuff very well, like screwing screws and opening cans, but my main love for it is simply because of its fantastic blade!

(And this is also where the Spirit X kicks LM ass, s30v or not ;) )

I love SAKs, the Cadet is my all-time favorite. I've EDCd the black cadet for a while now.
