Honor to the great SAK...

The great swiss army knife:
It looks boring
Everyone has one
The blades are slow deploy and non tactical
The tools look kind of geeky

BUT...
It just works
It is cheap and is very replaceable
They have fantastic fit and finish (amazing for the price)
The blades cut better than many of todays most popular knives
They last for years and years. Of all the knives listed on blade forums, the SAK is the most common to be carried for a decade or more by users here
They are people friendly. They arent seen as deadly weapons.
The average joe uses em--and the more knife users the better.
They make fantastic gifts and of all the knife gifts I give these are the ones that are most well received and used.

The SAK is just a all round great tool to have in your pocket or your bag. I think every knife nut should at least carry a small classic on their keys :)

The SAK was my first knife and i will probably always carry one. I don't find them to be the most fun knife in the world but for me they just work. They get the job done.

Just felt like posting about a useful knives that often doent get a lot of love :p

+ MacGyver had one. MacGyver was the show why I wanted SAK too. Its source of my knife nuttiness and my still most carried knives are SAK Spartan (my first SAL ever I still have it) and SAK alox soldier.

For the money, you can't beat the Tinker. Sharpens up like a razor!

Just like both blades on my Cybertool and both blades on my Ranger and the blade on my Cadet & Farmer & Trekker. I've had no problem getting any of my SAK blades razor sharp & I don't even need to go beyond a strop to do it. Because of the full flat grind these are really good performing blades. They may not hold an edge for as long as a S30V blade would, but they do hold an edge well enough for my needs and they take very little time & effort to get back to 'shaving sharp'. The fact is that for most every day tasks there is no need for better steel - the SAK blades are good enough to do the job!

My Cybertool can open a package just like a Sebenza can, but can a Sebenza be used to build a PC from parts? (including tightening up the hex nuts on the case for the motherboard to be mounted on)
My Cybertool has 3 different sized phillips screwdrivers + flat screwdriver + 3 different sized torx drivers for it's interchangeable bit driver and it still has the large flat screwdriver on the bottle opener & the smaller one on the can opener and the even smaller one that is sitting in the corkscrew. It has scissors & pliers and other tools. Every computer tech in the world ought to carry one of these!

One of the best things about SAKs is that there is a model to suit almost any use from the 1/2oz Alox Classic to the 111mm models with locking blades. Even if you always carry a locking knife it is still worth having a SAK as well for backup and for the other tools.

Here's my current favorite.....

Amen Brother!!!!

My alox soldier is worth 10 times what I paid for it. All my saks are the most used knives in my collection.

Ditto. Soldier has been fantastic. I would have paid $100 for one if I knew what it could do.

My oldest and most used SAK, a 30+ yr. old Pioneer...

You will find little disagreement around here. My EDC blades come and go, but an Explorer Plus is always in my pocket.

Indeed. In my case it's a Soldier:

There have been lots of other EDC knives, but this one has been in my pocket for seven years without missing a beat. The fit and finish is better than knives I've paid ten times as much for. It even opens my beer for me.

One tool that's guaranteed to always be with me is the Victorinox Midnight Manager. It covers about 90% of my needs. The LED light is bright enough for most short tasks, the pen is sufficient, the scissors are small but usable, the small flat screwdriver & nail file work, the small phillips screwdriver has opened many small electronic screws, the cap lifter is minimal but works in a pinch, and the knife is sufficient for most urban tasks.

Whenever I have my trousers on, I complete the system with a multitool, a one-hand opening knife, an LED flashlight (AAA), a gas lighter, and a USB drive. Still the little Midnight Manager gets the most use because it's good enough for most tasks and it scares nobody but TSA agents.

My Sak... First time I've posted pictures of it online... It's kinda strange but I like it ;)

In all seriousness... Its my only SAK, bought in the motherland when I was over there about 8 years ago... I was told that was the only place to get a black one (perhaps it was at the time?) definitely engraved on the reverse with my name... Great little knife, its seen its fair share of hard days (though it doesn't look it in the photo... I was feeling impatient)

Seriously, what else can be said about a knife which 99% of guys wanted more than any other knife when they were little boys.

I've often said they need to have a new Nobel Prize...

"The Nobel Prize for s**t that works!"

The guys @ Vic'nox and Wenger would most certainly have some of these...

SAKs, Zippo lighters, Craftsman tools....s**t that just works day in and day out, and has for longer than any of us have been around.

Amen. I have to admit that I rarely use them to cut things, but I always have a SAK or Spirit handy for the tools. Bottle opener, scissors, screwdrivers, tweezers... all come in handy. I could get by with no knife but a SAK just fine.

anything that's entirely red and has a clearly defined cross on it has got to be a lifesaver worthy of every bit of bestowed honor possible.

Honestly, I love all 150 of my knives but the Victorinox SAK is by far the best knife or tool ever invented. It was my first real knife and it will more than likely be the last knife in my pocket before I die. If I had to have only one knife, it would be a Swiss Army knife. No matter were I am at in this World, I always feel well prepared for anything as long as I have a Swiss Army knife. By the way, I do have at least 30 of them. I own more Victorinox's than any other Brand name knives. For the durability, selection of tools and price, you just cant beat them. I love em!!!!!

Used to edc only saks, only had those and knew of those LOL
I don't always edc a SAK, slipjoints rotate too in the edc roundup
BUT the SwissTool is with me ALWAYS and everywhere

they just rock, everyone knows about them, no fears, no bad looks, pure functionality

Yep, I do this! I carry a one hand opening folder and a Leatherman Wave all the time, but next to my keys there's a small SAK! Those scissors are great!
