Honyaki Yanagiba claying up. Ugly picture added.

Its only that dirty on the trunk and part of the roof because I park under a dirty palm tree every night and it rained the night before. That is palm sap mud. :p As for my project, I am just "muddling" along with this knife because I have no yanagiba in hand and am working from pictures on the interwebz. My previous kitchen knives were copied and modified from a couple of mid prices Japanese blades that I bought because I liked their blade profile.
It’s alright that your car is dirty.. Try doing a little market research, if there is a Japanese knife shop around you. Buy something from them so you don’t waste their time, even tell them what you are up to and take a few pics!

No such shop in Florida as far as I know. There used to be a guy who sold some cheaper J knives in Miami, but even down there, it is pretty much a desert. The closest possible outlet to me is one of two Sur La Table stores and they are 20 and 30 miles away with no guarantee that they will have anything in stock that I want to look at. Mostly German and mass market Japanese stuff like Shun and Global. I ordered my knives from JCK in Tokyo because the prices were good and shipping was LESS from Japan that it would have been from California, etc. Weird. It was like $7-8 for two boxed knives via the Japanese Post Office and they were here in like 7 days. Talk about heavily subsidized shipping!!!

Well, I just confirmed today that forging a big integral is more difficult than forging a yangiba, at least without jigs for the press. Said integral has been converted to a full tang flat blade. :p
