Horrible Problems with Cold Steel's Warranty... You?

I was bottoning with it, but at the time, I only had it 3 months, and up until that point, I had done only carving with it (I have since switched to actual, Bushcraft knives). I just don't get it...
Interesting...so apparently batoning with a fixed blade from a company that incessantly touts the strength of their knives makes you an "irresponsible owner"? Ridiculous.

For some reason it won't let me edit my post.

I wanted to add, that out of 15 or more products, I have only had that one lemon (black rhino).

I love their Triad Lock!

I was miffed about the lock issue on the Black Rhino, not that there was a lock issue, but that it was a design flaw, and isntead of fixing the issue, they just sold them all at a discount! Knowing there wass this issue!

I still bought a new Recon1.

And, not gonna lie, I still have designs on a pipe hawk, a spilke hawwk etc!

I haven't had many issues with their blades, but on those few it's been "ship the knife back and recieve a replacement". Hard to know who you were speaking with, but that doesn't sound like the customer service I have experienced. I would try again honestly.

As far as a knife comparable to the TM, the older model BK9 was made from thicker stock so it's much closer. Takes some searching to find one, so availability is kind of issue. I can't speak for the knife without owning one, but that Rodent 9 looks like a good bet for a full tang chopper to me.

I was getting ready to by a Hold Out II or an American Lawman and I just changed my mind

You could get a Bark River for around $200 that is guaranteed for life, you can even send them in for Spa treatments if it gets banged-up.

I ordered 4 war axes from them when they were discontinued. The heads made it to me, shafts nowhere to be found. Emailed/called (can't fully remember) and they sent out 4 full new set if axes and shafts. Incidentally all 8 shafts appeared on the same day- they told me to keep all 8 sets for the price of 4(already discounted). This was my only experience with their CS. I have found that their krayton does work loose at the guard of the SRK I used to have- as a hard use beater I did not mind.

All companies have variation in CS experiences, I would call and explain again. I give a company 2 tries to make it right (which is why I don't deal with Bark River any more).

Just my experiences.

I would love to hear what Bark River did.

You can pm me if you would like.

I tried twice, and spoke with 2 "higher-ups" in their customer service dept. I'd much rather get some Barkies, Kabars, Ontarios, Swamp Rats, ESEE's and some other great companies who actually stand by their product... And you get ALOT more blade for your buck. IMO, Cold Steel just strikes me as sorta "gimicky", and kind of "Bud-K"ish... So in other words, cheesy. And in alot of ways they are (just go on their website, look at their catalog, or look at one of their boxes... they just SCREAM cheesy).

If I were you, I'd look at getting a Spyderco, or if you can swing it, an Emerson. Both are great companys, and you'll be hard-pressed to find better folders for the money ;)

Hi Jared -

Draw up your dream design, and then contact my friend John Kiedaisch, who makes JK Handmade Knives.

John will make anything you can come up with, up to about 14" overall length, in 01 tool steel.

I am no designer, but many of John's customers are, and there are some really cool knife designs coming from JK and his customer collaborations.

Thanks for the idea! I really wouldn't mind having another custom (I only have one; a Koyote custom, and its AMAZING quality). Will do!

I would like to echo what mqqn said about John. Very nice guy and talented maker. I have watched him make knives to people's specs and he makes a beautiful knife.
